Should Verlander Managers Be Happy With Astros Trade?

00:00 Mhm. If you look at the numbers of what he's done, you know, in 2023, which was
00:07 a little shorter piece because obviously you dealt with that shoulder injury in
00:11 the beginning of the year. And I think that was, that was part of this whole
00:14 thing that just kept going sideways for the Mets, right? He had 94 innings for
00:17 the Mets this year. He was a six and five record. So that kind of tells you
00:20 where things were because he started off slow because of an injury. He didn't
00:23 seem to have the feel for pitching and then he started to get the feel for
00:26 those pitches back. Uh, and you could see in the last month or two, really
00:30 him starting to look more like Justin Verlander. We saw last year 81 strike
00:33 out, still very strong. Their strikeout rate a little bit down. But again,
00:37 that's low start. I think really pushed him back a little bit. A 315 era and
00:40 then 1.14 whip. And this is a huge addition. And we talked about how this
00:45 number was going to move, Matt and mentioned it in the last segment. Last
00:49 week it was plus 800. By the time I went and talked with Ben Stevens on
00:53 Tuesday on T. M. A. That number went to 700. It was 6 50 in some other places
00:58 for the Astros to win the American League. Now that number is plus 3 80. So
01:03 the only teams ahead of them are the Texas Rangers, who will get to in a
01:07 second, who made some moves of their own, but also some injuries of their
01:09 own that are concerning and the Tampa Bay Rays and the Tampa Bay Rays with
01:13 McClanehan news looming. This is your last moment, I feel like to make an
01:18 investment here in the Houston Astros. But from a fancy standpoint, you love
01:22 it because Verlander is comfortable here is comfortable with his teammates,
01:24 the coaching staff, the environment, the pitchers mound, everything, all the
01:28 little nuances of of pictures and they have many of them. They have many
01:33 particulars. You don't have to worry about any of those things. So this is
01:36 kind of like, you know, just the old shoe for Justin Verlander and for
01:40 Amber Valdez bouncing back after a bad few starts for him. That's really
01:44 important. Now you have that one to punch in the playoffs. Now it takes a
01:47 little pressure off the rest of the guys in this rotation. But Matt, I mean,
01:51 in my opinion, this is just one of those things where it just made a lot
01:53 of sense for everybody. And now, if you are just a Verlander manager, all that
01:57 frustrations that started out in the beginning of the year. Now, all of a
02:00 sudden, it looks like if you held true or if you made a trade for him, the
02:04 chances are you gonna be very happy with what you get in August of
02:06 September.
