00:00 This is Simon and Michelle Beard from Meet Me at the Gate in Officer South.
00:04 They run a grass-fed operation of about 100 head where they join Angus and
00:08 Frieden cows to share their bulls. They'd sell their meat direct to the public at
00:12 their Farmgate produce store. Steering away from wholesalers in 2019 they found
00:16 a positive return on setting their own prices and getting to know their
00:19 customers directly.
00:22 We have a lot of locals as well as passing factory, probably 80% repeat customers and 20% new.
00:28 I love the community aspect, I get to know the people around you.
00:33 It's not only about buying your meat but it's able to be real as people as well.
00:39 So these are our online orders that people go online to order.
00:43 They packed last night so people can come up and pick up today.
00:49 So in this one we've just got some snags, steak, a bit of rum, then some diced and some stir fry with a bit of mix.
00:57 Simon and Michelle prioritise low stress handling with their cattle so they avoid using livestock trucks and instead transport their cattle themselves.
01:05 Simon said the whole process is traceable from the calves being born at their Linga Longa Park stud at the same property to arriving back on their shelves at Meet Me at the Gate.
