DFA summons Chinese envoy over latest incident in Ayungin Shoal
Transcript
00:00 The Department of Foreign Affairs called the Chinese ambassador to the Philippines, Huang
00:03 Zhilian, to say the Philippines' strong condemnation of the China Coast Guard's action against
00:09 our ship in Ayungin Shoal.
00:10 DFA Undersecretary Teresa Lazaro herself talked to the Chinese envoy in which she insisted
00:16 that the Ayungin Shoal is not contestable.
00:19 She said that it's not valid and illegal for them.
00:22 They added that the U.S. step to make the arbitral ruling an issue will not affect China.
00:28 They also re-insisted that any armed attack on ships, aircrafts and armed forces of the
00:33 Philippines, including the Coast Guard in South China, could trigger a mutual defense
00:37 treaty between the Philippines and the United States.
00:41 But the Foreign Affairs Department says for now it is not necessary.
00:45 The government emphasized again that it will not abandon BRP Ceramadre.
00:49 This is in spite of the delayed resupply mission for the troops destined to the Philippine
00:54 ship abroad in the Ayungin Shoal due to the action of the China Coast Guard.
00:59 The DFA had already said that they have sent a note verbale to China regarding the incident.
