  • last year
Dedicated owners Sue and Keith Blaze started their collection back in the 80's.

00:00 We started the collection in 1983 when my grandmother gave me a teapot to go in a cupboard that we had in a new kitchen.
00:05 My personal favourite is a Harley Davidson teapot, it's called a teahole.
00:09 Teapot Island lives up to its name, a place for teapot fans everywhere.
00:15 Since starting the collection in the 80s, Sue and Keith Blasey have collected rare and ridiculous teapots from all over the world.
00:24 Among the teapots in this rather storied collection is the Bassett's Liquorice Allsorts Authentic Teapot.
00:30 It's made in the late 80s and unfortunately is not liquorice allsort flavoured, although with the sheer craftsmanship on display here, you'd be forgiven for thinking as such.
00:39 But now, the Blaseys have announced they'll be putting the property up for sale for nearly a million pounds.
00:45 We decided to sell the grounds now because my son's wife isn't very well and we want more time for ourselves to have a bit of a life before we get too old.
00:56 The owners have chosen to not include the teapot collection in the sale of the cafe and property, but their son Luke isn't too happy about the decision to sell up at all.
01:05 I don't think he likes it at all, but he understands that family come first.
01:10 We made the decision at the beginning of this year that we thought there was something going to have to happen because our son can't cope with being here and looking after his wife.
01:21 And we want to retire because we're on our feet seven days a week.
01:26 While Keith and Sue look forward to their retirement, they're still sad to see the longstanding family collection go.
01:32 I'm very sad that we've worked very hard over the years to get what it is and how it is.
01:37 It's going to be quite heart-wrenching for us.
01:40 The Blazes remain committed to the safety and upkeep of their grounds and pots for future generations of tourists to enjoy.
01:48 I would like them not to split the collection up because it's taken so many years to collect the teapots and get the collection together.
01:55 Bailey Abson for KMTV in Yorlding.
