00:08 Good morning. Here are the first news of GMA Integrated News.
00:13 Meanwhile, Kapuso, in the school year 2024 to 2025, the Department of Education plans to implement the new curriculum,
00:21 which they call the "Matatag K-10 Curriculum".
00:25 This curriculum is aimed at those who are overloaded or congested.
00:31 Here is my first news.
00:33 The curriculum is overloaded with too many lessons or subjects.
00:39 That is the reason, according to Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte,
00:44 why the learning delivery in basic education in the country is compromised.
00:48 That's why after two years of review, the Matatag K-10 Curriculum was launched.
00:53 "M" stands for "Makabagong Curriculum na Napapanahon".
01:13 The Vice President thanked the former Education Secretary, Leonor Breones,
01:18 for the initiative to start the curriculum review.
01:21 In the newly launched Matatag K-10 Curriculum,
01:24 70% of the current curriculum used for public education was reduced.
01:30 But this will help in understanding the lessons learned,
01:34 maintaining knowledge, and making the learning experience more effective and confusing.
01:39 In grades 1 and 2, from the previous 7 learning areas, there will be only 5 subjects.
01:45 When grade 3 comes, science will be added.
01:48 When it comes to higher education, other subjects will be added.
01:53 The value of education will be changed in GMRC when it comes to grades 7 to 10.
01:58 Vice President Duterte also wanted to include Peace Education.
02:02 "Peace Education is heavily integrated in all learning areas.
02:07 Awareness, social responsibility, disaster risk mitigation, human security.
02:14 But all these are really meant to make our children, our learners,
02:20 be aware that they have to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts even in the classroom."
02:27 Faced implementation will be done in the Matatag Curriculum
02:30 from the school year 2024 to 2025 until 2027 to 2028.
02:35 There are still assignments to be given, except for the weekend.
02:39 DepEd will clarify.
02:41 "We still have K-12, which is just a first step to review,
02:45 pass, and to implement the Matatag Agenda or the new curriculum for K-10.
02:51 But K-12 is still ongoing. In fact, we are now reviewing our grades 11 and 12."
02:58 "The Maritime Militia, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, plans to strengthen
03:03 the military forces in the West Philippine Sea.
03:06 The militia is a group of civilians who joined military training to serve as reserves in our armed forces.
03:12 The KFB Chief of Staff Romeo Browner Jr., one of the things they are looking at as reservists
03:18 are fishermen because they can operate in the sea.
03:22 The reaction of some fishermen about this, you will know later."
03:26 We are in Beshika this Friday morning.
03:29 We never go out of style Swifties. The re-recorded 1989 album of Taylor Swift is set to be released.
03:36 The 1989 Taylor's version will be released on October 27,
03:40 exactly nine years after the release of the 1989 album in 2014.
03:45 For Taylor, 1989 is life-changing and it is her most favorite re-recorded album.
03:50 Aside from the re-recorded version of the hit songs of "Shake It Off", "Blank Space", and "Style",
03:55 there are also additional five tracks from "The Vault".
03:58 Before we start, we will first join the school brigade to prepare for the school year.
04:04 And coming back from Commonwealth Elementary School in Quezon City, we have with us Marie Zumay.
04:10 Marie.
04:11 Yes, good morning Ivan.
04:17 And just a few moments from now, the school brigade will start the 2023 kick-off.
04:25 The stage is already set for the program.
04:28 You know Ivan and Kapuso, just this August 7, the nationwide kick-off of the school brigade
04:35 was officially launched at Tarlac National High School.
04:38 No less than our Vice President and Education Secretary, Sara Duterte.
04:42 And this morning, the school brigade will start preparing for the school year in Quezon City.
04:53 And at this point, we have Dr. Wilma Mano, the Principal 4 of Commonwealth Elementary School
04:59 to give us more details on what will be the school brigade kick-off.
05:05 Good morning, ma'am.
05:07 Good to see you again.
05:09 Okay, first of all, what will be the main focus of the school brigade here at Commonwealth Elementary School?
05:16 First of all, we will make sure that all students who will be entering
05:20 will have a seat, have a proper education, and that their paths will be safe.
05:26 And above all, that their preparations for the upcoming school year are well-organized.
05:32 Alright, at this point, just a few weeks, the school year will start.
05:39 Are there any shortcomings in terms of classrooms, armchairs?
05:44 We noticed earlier that there are some broken armchairs.
05:46 Will all of those be replaced?
05:48 Will we have more problems or barriers?
05:51 Are you seeing more of those?
05:53 At this point, we have 3 classrooms that are buffered,
05:57 prepared so that if our population grows,
06:01 we can have more students, around 600 or more.
06:08 So, we're expecting 600?
06:11 But we're expecting 600 more?
06:14 So, how many will be added?
06:16 At this point, our enrollment is 7,623.
06:20 So, if we add the 600, approximately 8,200 plus.
06:24 Is this more than the previous years?
06:26 Yes, it's more because this year, all of those in the catchment area or around the school,
06:33 we forced them to enter, especially those in the communities where the children are still being hidden,
06:39 being taken care of by the siblings.
06:41 Are we going back to the pre-pandemic levels, the number of students who are enrolling?
06:44 Correct. We're here in the pre-pandemic time,
06:48 where all the children are interested in returning to school.
06:52 Are we expecting more late enrollees?
06:54 Probably those who are from the provinces who will return to Manila, but only a few.
07:00 Is it full face-to-face?
07:02 Yes.
07:03 Are we still entering or hybrid?
07:04 We're still face-to-face, but if there's an opportunity that we need to go hybrid or online,
07:09 because for example, there's a class suspension, and we still need to continue our studies,
07:14 that's when online learning will enter.
07:17 Alright. Ma'am, I have a question for you because yesterday,
07:20 the Department of Education had a strong K-10 curriculum.
07:24 What can you say about this and what adjustments will our school make?
07:28 Okay. When we were young, not many were taught subjects like this.
07:35 In the K-10 curriculum, the students were made together to focus on teaching,
07:46 and most of all, they were given additional classes so that the teachers can focus on teaching
07:52 and not do the ancillary work of the non-teaching staff.
07:57 Do you have any training to prepare for this?
08:00 Yes. We have insets for the coming days, and we still have the quality circle,
08:06 mentoring, and technical assistance.
08:08 Alright. Thank you very much for the information you gave us, Dr. Will Maman,
08:12 the Principal 4 of Commonwealth Elementary School.
08:14 Thank you so much, Ma'am.
08:15 Thank you, Ma'am.
08:16 And good luck to the Eskwela Kickoff Brigade.
08:18 God bless.
08:19 God bless. Meanwhile, Kapuso, we can see that some members of the 4Ps are arriving.
08:25 These are the parents of some students who studied here at the Commonwealth Elementary School,
08:29 and they are part of the school's school board.
08:34 You can see the cleaning materials here.
08:37 These are the materials they will use to clean the classrooms.
08:43 They studied here to make it clean, clean, and safe for all of our students when they return to school.
08:51 And at this point, we can see the education stakeholders of their barangay who will be joining the Eskwela Kickoff Brigade this morning.
09:03 They are very happy. They are just waiting for the program to start.
09:07 That's the latest from the Commonwealth Elementary School. Back to you, Ivan.
09:12 Meanwhile, for those who will attend the worship service this Kiyapo Day,
09:14 wearing a face mask at the Kiyapo Church and other churches in Manila is no longer required.
09:20 Now, we will hear the news live from Darlene Cai.
09:23 Darlene.
09:25 Good morning, Ivan.
09:30 The number of devotees attending the worship service here at the Kiyapo Church has increased this morning.
09:34 So, if you can see, the other devotees are already outside the church listening to the mass.
09:40 It's still early. The queue of devotees who want to enter the church is already long.
09:45 Most of them are still wearing face masks.
09:48 Even though the Archdiocese of Manila announced yesterday that wearing a face mask is now optional for those attending the worship service.
09:56 That's based on the Circular 2023-61 signed by the Archbishop Cardinal Jose Advincula.
10:03 Here at the Kiyapo Church, devotees who will enter the church are no longer required, unlike before.
10:09 But it is noteworthy that more people are still wearing face masks inside or outside the church.
10:16 According to the devotees we talked to, they prefer to wear face masks because they are used to it and they feel safer.
10:24 Others say they are happy that the Archdiocese of Manila announced that they can no longer wear face masks because they are more comfortable without wearing any.
10:37 I'm sure that even if it's a protective mask, I will still wear it even if it's just a mask.
10:46 Because I sometimes wear a mask that is moist.
10:53 I prefer wearing a mask because now there's a new trend. I feel safer wearing a mask.
11:05 Events are now continuing. The 7 a.m. mass and the devotees who were in line earlier are about to enter.
11:11 There are still people in line but there are also the Ijos del Nazareno who are watching and commanding the line.
11:17 That's the first news here in Manila. I'm Darlene Kaye for GMA Integrated News.
11:23 The Department of Environment and Natural Resources said that the reclamation project in Manila Bay is suspended and under review.
11:32 According to Environment Secretary Antonio Yulo Loizaga, they are conducting a study to show the effects of the projects in Manila Bay, its surroundings and other sectors.
11:41 They will start the assessment of the ongoing projects because they already feel the effects of those in the area.
11:47 On the list of the Philippine Reclamation Authority, there are 25 Manila Bay Reclamation Projects.
11:52 Three are ongoing, seven are in the implementation or preparatory stage, three more are approved and 12 are pending.
12:00 The PRA has already written a letter to the affected local government units to implement the suspension order.
12:07 Isabel Ortega, a.k.a. Jamie Robinson, cried in the episode of Vault 5 Legacy last night. Why?
12:14 Gabby Eigenman's character, Commander Oscar Robinson, Jamie's father, died in the series.
12:26 This was after General Oslock of Bosenian attacked Robinson's father.
12:31 The Vault 5 team and Camp Big Falcon gave peace and gave support to the successful leader.
12:38 Watch the next scenes of Vault 5 Legacy every night, Monday to Friday after 24 hours.
12:46 A working student was found dead after discovering that his mother ate the money he saved.
12:52 He lost P14,000. Here is the first news of Jamie Santos.
12:58 Randy, a student, just cried after he was found dead after discovering that his mother ate the money he saved.
13:17 He hid P20,000 in a box made of cardboard and covered with plastic.
13:23 His mother ate more than half of it, P14,000.
13:28 Randy's friend was the one who discovered what happened.
13:36 When he left, the balcony was swept away.
13:41 When the balcony was swept away, someone kicked it.
13:46 It's like someone is washing his hair.
13:50 Randy is now graduating in the course of Information Technology.
13:54 But the problem now is his enrollment in the school.
13:57 What happened to Randy's money?
14:00 According to the BSP Circular No. 829 series of 2014, there are three things to be monitored to replace the lost money.
14:12 60% of the money should still be left.
14:16 The BSP Governor or the President of the Philippines should have a remaining part of the money.
14:22 The third is the security thread that should be seen in the lost money.
14:28 Aside from the loss of or the loss of security thread due to fire, chemical, wetness, and water or like a plague,
14:37 the lost money should be brought to the authorized bank.
14:40 The bank will bring it to the BSP for inspection.
14:44 If the lost money exceeds the requirements, the BSP will deposit the bank's value in the account to return it to their client.
14:53 The problem is that Randy's money is now being lost.
14:57 And the other people are now in debt.
15:00 Only 6,000 pesos is left in his savings.
15:03 The public used to ask the BSP to deposit the savings in formal accounts like banks, e-money issuers, microfinance institutions, and cooperatives.
15:15 The BSP and other agencies say that these are regulated.
15:18 That's why the money can be kept more than saved at home.
15:23 Since she was a child, she has been saving in cash.
15:27 She tried using an ATM but it stopped working.
15:30 That's why the money is saved directly in the bank.
15:33 The mother has a house.
15:36 The second thing is that when another year comes, the money is no longer being used.
15:42 You have to exchange it to the bank.
15:45 And sometimes it gets damaged.
15:47 So you don't trust the ATM?
15:51 Yes. And there's a tendency for the ATM to be stolen.
15:55 Unlike banks, it's safe.
15:58 Day was the one who brought the ATM.
16:01 The storm hit all of his brothers' ATMs.
16:05 That's why all the money he saved was lost.
16:08 The storm hit our brothers' ATMs and we lost all our savings.
16:14 That's why after that, our parents taught us to use the bank.
16:20 This is the first news.
16:22 Jamie Santos for JMA Integrated News.
16:25 The Maritime Militia of the Armed Forces of the Philippines
16:29 is planning to strengthen the military's forces in the West Philippine Sea.
16:33 The fishermen are also planning to become reservists.
16:37 What is the reaction of the fishermen about this?
16:40 And live from Navotas, the first news.
16:43 Bam Alegre.
16:48 Ivan, good morning.
16:50 There are times when the fishermen are stuck in the sea,
16:53 especially when there's tension in the West Philippine Sea.
16:55 It's time to train the fishermen to become armed
17:00 to be ready for this situation.
17:02 Because of the ongoing issues in the territory of the West Philippine Sea,
17:09 the military will focus on the presence of the Philippines
17:12 in places that are part of our Exclusive Economic Zone.
17:15 The Armed Forces of the Philippines is planning to form a maritime militia
17:19 and the development of the Philippine Reserve Forces is part of the plan.
17:23 The fishermen are planning to join the Reserve Force.
17:26 And then of course, we want our fisherfolks to become reservists
17:35 and we will teach them how they can help in defending our country.
17:43 Senior citizen and fisherman Antonio Palileo from Navotas City
17:47 liked the idea.
17:48 He said that if he can just be a fisherman,
17:50 he will not refuse to be a reservist for the country.
17:53 It would be nice if they help me.
17:55 If I was still young, I would be able to do it.
17:58 I can help my fellow fishermen.
18:03 But he also has a request because the obligation is not a joke.
18:06 If you have a little bit of experience, you will be able to do it.
18:10 Because you will do it like a fisherman.
18:14 What if you are not used to it?
18:16 Now, he knows that fishermen will not just give up if they are not good at it.
18:21 Virgilio Enceslao has been a fisherman for 5 decades.
18:24 He thinks that it might be more problematic for people like him.
18:27 I am sure that it will happen to us.
18:30 It is hard to control him.
18:32 If you are going to hurt him, he might get even more angry.
18:36 But he does not realize that the tension in the West Philippine Sea is affecting his livelihood.
18:41 Especially, the fishing spots are shrinking and there are many competitors.
18:47 That is why his boats are just left here in the river of Navotas.
18:51 It is really hard for me.
18:53 I cannot catch anything now.
18:56 I don't know where I will catch something.
18:58 I just have to carry my boats.
19:03 [Birds chirping]
19:08 Aside from Virgilio's boats, there are also other boats anchored in a part of the river of Navotas.
19:16 It is hard to cross.
19:17 This is the first news from Navotas, Bamalegre for Jimmy Integrating News.
19:22 Meanwhile, San Miguel Corporation has denied that their airport project in Bulacan is the source of heavy flooding in the province.
19:29 SMC President and CEO Ramon Ang said that even before the airport project started, the problem of flooding in Bulacan has been going on for a long time.
19:37 The solution that Ang saw was a wide clean-up of rivers and waterways in Bulacan.
19:43 SMC is ready to help the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in that area.
19:48 SMC has planned their projects after the statement of the Bulacan Governor, Daniel Fernando,
19:54 that construction projects are one of the sources of widespread flooding in their area.
20:00 Bulacan is in a state of calamity because of the flooding.
