Need to score big, Bangladesh can still make semis: Tamim Iqbal

  • last year
Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal admits he has fallen short so far at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Tamim contributed 62 in his side’s defeat to Australia at Trent Bridge, getting Bangladesh off to a decent start when attempting to chase 382. But that knock marks the only half-century he has made this World Cup, with nobody as disappointed as the 30-year-old at his lack of form. Getting set then getting out has been a common theme for Tamim and the trait reappeared at Nottingham, in a defeat that dented the Tigers’ hopes of reaching the semi-finals. (Video: ICC)

00:00 What was the talk at the halfway stage before going into the batting?
00:11 We have a batting plan and we wanted to score around 180-200 in the 30th over and then see
00:19 where we are at.
00:20 We didn't want to lose too many early wickets.
00:22 We know that Stark and Cummings are good with new balls and they normally take wickets early.
00:28 I think the problem with us was that myself and Shakib got out at the wrong time.
00:34 We were having a good partnership and then both of us got out at the wrong time.
00:40 If one of us could have continued batting and got a big 100, then there was a chance
00:46 but that didn't happen.
00:49 But at the end of the day, I thought Mushi and Riyad tried their best.
00:53 Both played serious innings.
00:56 We'll see, we'll see, we have three more games.
00:59 We need to be positive.
01:00 We have scored 300+ in the last two innings.
01:03 So let's see what happens.
01:04 What happened between you and Shomu?
01:09 Nothing.
01:10 I thought that was an easy run and then we had a miscommunication and that happens in
01:15 cricket.
01:16 Me and Shomu normally run quite well.
01:19 We have a good understanding between each other but it happens in cricket.
01:23 It's pretty good.
