00:00 Welcome to Outlook India.
00:01 And let me begin by congratulating you
00:04 for entering Elimination Chamber.
00:06 - Oh, thank you.
00:06 Appreciate it.
00:07 - So let's begin.
00:09 So if I may say so, you have had a diverse career.
00:14 You're doing so well from wrestling to movies.
00:17 You know, so according to you, how has your journey been?
00:21 - It's been a bit of a roller coaster.
00:23 It's definitely, it definitely has its ups,
00:29 some amazing ups and some pretty low downs.
00:32 But, you know, I'm still here.
00:34 I'm still kicking.
00:35 I'm still, I'm really, I think,
00:37 feel like right now in my career,
00:39 I'm doing my best work of my career.
00:42 I'm in the best shape of my career.
00:43 So I feel like,
00:46 I feel really, really good where I'm at right now.
00:48 I mean, from when I started,
00:52 debuted at Beats Cena to where I am now,
00:55 that obviously, you know,
00:57 there's been some stuff that obviously wasn't great.
01:00 But as I said, you can only look forward.
01:02 And this Sunday, the elimination chamber,
01:05 I'm looking forward to becoming a four times,
01:10 five times, sorry, five times to be champion,
01:13 to be world heavyweight champion.
01:15 - Great.
01:16 So how do you balance, you know,
01:17 how do you balance between movies and wrestling?
01:20 Because when you are wrestling,
01:21 you have to be a certain weight.
01:23 You have, you know, a certain specification.
01:27 Probably the character you're playing in a movie
01:29 might not demand so.
01:30 So how do you balance between the two?
01:33 - Luckily enough, the roles I do play
01:35 are pretty much about the way I look.
01:38 I don't really do any, like,
01:40 I haven't got any crazy character-based stories
01:43 where I've had to drop it,
01:44 like, you know, 20 pounds or 50 pounds or something.
01:47 But the hardest part, obviously,
01:49 is making the time to do movies between wrestling.
01:52 Because obviously we were on Raw every week.
01:54 So you have to be there on a Monday.
01:55 And then once a month we have the pay-per-views,
01:57 like a domination chamber.
01:58 So it's just about getting the balance.
02:00 And if an opportunity does come up,
02:02 that we're able to do it without conflicting
02:05 with our TV, Raw TV schedule.
02:10 So it's just a matter of moving things around.
02:13 It's not too bad.
02:14 It's actually great.
02:15 A lot of guys have done movies and done TV shows.
02:18 So that's something I'd like to do more of.
02:20 - Right.
02:21 And what made you choose your ring name?
02:25 What was the reason behind it?
02:27 - The Celtic Warrior?
02:28 - Yes.
02:30 - Because I wanted to bring a very, very positive
02:33 Irish stereotype to WWE,
02:35 as opposed to like plastic paddy sort of stuff.
02:38 And, you know, all the stereotypes of Ireland
02:41 that are around now.
02:42 So I wanted to bring a strong Celtic vibe to WWE.
02:47 It's something that's very integrated to our culture,
02:51 the Celts, the Irish Celts.
02:54 So I wanted to bring that to the more fierce
02:56 kind of warrior vibe, which I feel is a big part of me.
03:00 - Right.
03:01 So tell us something about, you know,
03:03 WWE Elimination Chamber.
03:06 How have you prepared yourself?
03:08 You know, how many hours do you practice?
03:10 Things like that.
03:11 - I'm ready every day.
03:14 I train every day.
03:16 I don't take a day off.
03:17 I'm in the gym.
03:18 I just did fast cardio now.
03:21 And then I'll go back to the gym later on
03:22 and I'll work out.
03:23 I train twice a day, every day.
03:25 - I saw your screen.
03:27 - Oh, you did?
03:28 Thank you.
03:29 I'm most prepared for Elimination Chamber
03:32 as I am for RAW.
03:32 Every week for me is a training week.
03:36 As soon as I leave RAW, I go home on Tuesday.
03:39 I train the entire week at box.
03:41 I do some MMA, do cardio, lift weights.
03:45 I keep a good eye on what I'm eating, my diet.
03:47 So then when I come back to TV the following Monday,
03:50 I'm ready to go again.
03:51 I prepare every single week.
03:53 And I don't take a week off.
03:54 - Great.
03:56 And you know what inspired you?
03:58 What made you choose wrestling as a career?
04:01 What was that one thing that made you decide?
04:04 - It's fun.
04:05 Wrestling is fun.
04:06 - Is it?
04:07 - Yes, it's fun.
04:09 I mean, watching as a fan, I love it.
04:12 It's entertaining.
04:13 It's action-packed.
04:15 It's like watching real life superheroes
04:18 in the ring as a wrestler.
04:21 And obviously it's a lot more physical in the body,
04:24 but at the same time, it's a lot of fun to get in front of,
04:27 have the crowd watching you.
04:28 But I just enjoy it.
04:29 I enjoy the feedback from the fans.
04:31 I enjoy the actual physicality in the ring.
04:34 I love everything about it as a fan and as a competitor.
04:37 I've fallen in love with wrestling.
04:40 I just knew it was all I wanted to do.
04:42 - Yeah, it's fun to watch.
04:43 I don't know how about being in the ring, but yeah.
04:47 - It's tough, it's tough, but it's fun.
04:48 It is fun in the ring.
04:49 We all have fun.
04:50 You can see the girls have fun, the guys have fun.
04:52 You know what I mean?
04:53 It's very physical, but like, you know,
04:55 putting on a wrestling match and wrestling in the raw
04:57 in front of millions of people all over the world,
04:59 it's not many people can say they get to do that, so.
05:03 - Of course.
05:05 So, you know, you have been away from the main event scene
05:08 for quite a long time.
05:10 And a win here will catapult you to the top of the card.
05:14 What do you have to say about it?
05:17 - I think it's about time.
05:18 I think it's overdue.
05:20 I feel it's over five years, I think,
05:22 since I won my last world championship.
05:25 So it's way overdue.
05:27 And the way I'm training right now,
05:29 the way I'm performing in the ring,
05:31 my backstage promos, everything I'm doing,
05:33 I feel like nobody can touch me.
05:35 I feel I'm ready to take that part of back.
05:39 Thank you.
05:40 - And how has the pandemic been for you?
05:43 Did it change the game for you?
05:45 Did you come up with new strategies or something?
05:48 Did it help you in a way?
05:49 - Say that again?
05:51 - Like this time?
05:53 The pandemic, did it help you in a certain way?
05:56 Like, you know, building your strategies
05:58 or something like that?
05:59 - Oh yeah, well, physically more than anything,
06:02 it helped me when I was off.
06:03 Physically, the time it took away was really good.
06:05 I went to physical therapy and I worked on some,
06:07 like, mobility stuff.
06:09 And I worked on, like, a lot of core stuff
06:13 that was gonna help me, like, keep longevity to my career.
06:17 So I did a lot of more physical stuff,
06:19 like just working on my posture,
06:21 working on my form and my flexibility and my movement.
06:25 I worked a lot on more.
06:26 And I worked on, I started boxing and doing MMA,
06:29 kickboxing and stuff.
06:30 And that helped me with my movement in the ring,
06:33 my footwork, and just overall how I move.
06:37 All that stuff has completely changed
06:38 how I move in the ring.
06:39 And that's basically what I did.
06:41 I just, I went back to, I started from scratch,
06:44 started from zero again while I was off.
06:47 And I worked on things that needed to be addressed.
06:49 And here we are.
06:51 - Yeah.
06:53 So, you know, the first thing that comes on Google
06:56 when I type your name is you're the first Irish
06:59 world champion in WWE history.
07:01 - Yeah.
07:02 - How does that feel?
07:03 How does it make you feel?
07:05 A completion all around.
07:07 - Yeah, it's a tremendous, a tremendous honor for me
07:10 to do that, you know.
07:11 To be WWE champion, no matter what country you're from,
07:14 it's a huge, huge feat, you know.
07:17 But to do it as first Irish is,
07:19 it's pretty special for me.
07:20 It's really, really special.
07:22 And of course, I'll be going in against
07:24 the first ever British WWE World Heavyweight Champion,
07:27 Drew McIntyre.
07:28 So that's going to be a,
07:31 that's very, very interesting situation right there.
07:33 So the Scots and the Irish,
07:35 it's going to be a massive one.
07:37 Scotland versus Ireland, the Celts,
07:40 Battle of the Celts, the Battle of the Causeway.
07:43 So it's huge, huge connection between Scotland and Ireland.
07:46 I've been friends with Drew McIntyre for 20 years
07:49 and that friendship is pretty much over.
07:52 - So now we'll move to our, another section,
07:56 which is rapid fire, which is like,
07:57 I'll be saying something and you just have to quickly answer
08:01 what, whatever the first thing comes to your mind.
08:04 Okay.
08:04 WWE Championship, that title.
08:09 - Oh, mine.
08:13 - Ah, I like it.
08:15 - Yeah.
08:15 - Your favorite wrestler?
08:17 - My favorite?
08:19 - Wrestler?
08:21 - Favorite wrestler from the past would be Macho Man.
08:25 - Okay.
08:27 And among your contemporaries?
08:30 - Favorite wrestler, Cesaro.
08:32 - Okay, okay.
08:35 Your favorite movie?
08:41 Could be your own movie.
08:43 - I have a lot of movies I liked from the 80s.
08:49 I'll say Back to the Future.
08:51 - Okay.
08:53 And a character you would want to play next,
08:56 like a dream character?
08:58 - I wanted to play Venom, but Tom Hardy took that role.
09:03 What character would I like to play?
09:06 I'm trying to think.
09:07 There's a couple of characters I liked.
09:11 Wolverine, I'll be the new Wolverine.
09:14 - You'll do good, I think so.
09:18 So what would you call your autobiography as?
09:23 - The Warrior's Way.
09:26 - Nice, nice.
09:29 UFC or WWE?
09:31 - WWE.
09:32 - Okay.
09:34 Your favorite fight?
09:35 - My favorite match would be
09:39 I'd say for, as a child, would be Warrior and Hogan.
09:44 And then as a wrestler herself,
09:53 would definitely be Taker Sean from WrestleMania 26.
09:57 - Okay.
10:02 So my last two quick questions.
10:05 First is what's next?
10:06 What should we expect?
10:08 - What's next is for me to go into the elimination chamber
10:10 and take back the WWE Championship.
10:12 There's nobody that can touch me in there.
10:14 Nobody's as passionate, nobody as driven as I am.
10:17 I feel like I'm starting all over again.
10:19 And I feel like those other guys are just in the way.
10:22 They're all passers between me and Drew.
10:24 There's nobody, nobody can match me and Drew,
10:27 and Drew can't match me.
10:28 So that's the story, that's the plan, the WWE Champ.
10:32 - Okay.
10:33 And my last question would be a message
10:35 for your Indian fans.
10:37 - Oh, I love India.
10:38 I was in Jaipur,
10:39 and I had an absolutely unbelievable time there as well.
10:45 I think I was in Delhi as well.
10:49 It was not Delhi, it was somewhere else.
10:52 I was just, everything's a blur right now,
10:53 but Jaipur was really special to me.
10:56 I've actually wrestled in India as well.
10:58 So I'm looking forward to going back.
11:00 I definitely miss it.
11:00 That's one thing about WWE I miss,
11:02 is being able to go back to beautiful countries like India
11:05 and see all the amazing fans.
11:07 I've never seen fans as passionate as Indian fans.
11:10 It's insane.
11:11 You guys are like,
11:12 you're so much fun to meet,
11:15 to meet and to perform in front of.
11:17 - We are waiting for your win.
11:20 - I appreciate that.
11:21 Hopefully I can come back to India
11:22 with the WWE Championship for you guys.
11:24 You guys are phenomenal.
11:25 I appreciate you.
11:27 Have a great time.
11:27 Everybody in India, how's it going?
11:29 Make sure you watch Elimination Chamber
11:30 and watch the Celtic warrior rise back to the top.
11:34 - Yes.
11:35 - People love you in India.
11:37 And yeah, with this, I come to the end of my interview
11:41 and it was great talking to you.
11:43 (upbeat music)
11:46 .
11:47 (upbeat music)
