00:02 Okay, the new college football poll is out for the season.
00:06 I'm always interested in taking an early look as to what this may look like, Bill.
00:10 Were there any surprises for you in the top 25 as we sort of take a glance here
00:15 as to where things are?
00:16 The best teams are always gonna be at the top.
00:19 To me, the most compelling team, I guess, would be Caleb Williams and
00:23 USC to see how far they can take this thing in this final year of the pack.
00:28 >> Well, there's a couple things to keep in mind when you're looking at this.
00:30 Obviously, Georgia going for a three-peat.
00:33 And only two teams since 2000 started at number one in the preseason AP pool and
00:39 finished as national champions.
00:42 And that's kinda hard for me to believe considering how top heavy the sport is.
00:46 But USC did it in 2004, and Alabama did it in 2017.
00:51 So Georgia not only going for the first three-peat since the 1930s, but
00:55 they're trying to beat this out.
00:57 And the pools absolutely matter, Craig.
01:01 This is something I say all the time.
01:03 The last time there was a national champion that opened the season outside
01:08 the top ten was Florida State in 2013 when they had Jameis Winston.
01:13 The last team, the only team in the playoff era that has started outside
01:17 the top five was LSU in 2019.
01:20 And they had some guy named Joe Burrow throwing to Jamar Chase and
01:23 Justin Jefferson.
01:24 That pool absolutely does matter.
01:26 You mentioned USC, they're gonna land right in that number six spot.
01:30 And that means they're probably right on that edge.
01:32 It makes them very exciting around Caleb Williams.
01:35 Maybe they're the sleeper team that can do it.
01:36 But yeah, I always think the pools matter because I always tell people there's
01:41 something about it when you're playing that team and they're raising number one.
01:44 That's what college football is all about.
