Are the Miami Hurricanes relying on too many true freshmen to play major roles in 2023?
Transcript
00:00 We get this question from James.
00:01 I like this one.
00:03 It sounds like several starting spots.
00:05 We'll go to freshmen.
00:06 He says that's good for them, but isn't that a bad thing for the team
00:10 overall, because we might go six and six while these kids develop.
00:14 He says now, James, for the most part, the freshmen that we talk about so much.
00:19 Are going to be providing important depth, not starting.
00:23 I think when my show and so many others talk about all these freshmen
00:27 that are playing really well, I think it makes people assume that
00:29 they like seven or eight of these guys are going to be in the starting lineup.
00:33 We're not going to have any experience.
00:34 I don't think that's going to be the case.
00:36 Okay.
00:36 Now there there's a couple, right?
00:38 I think Francis Maui Noah, for sure.
00:40 Almost for sure.
00:40 He's likely going to be the starting right tackle, but this guy is a better
00:45 option than most of the veteran tackles in the ACC.
00:48 I mean, Francis, he's an exception to the rule.
00:50 He is special.
00:51 He is ready, right?
00:52 There's some other guys competing for starting jobs.
00:55 Demarie Brown, Demarie Brown might start at cornerback.
00:58 That's not set in stone yet.
00:59 He's out there competing.
01:01 Now, in the case of Demarie Brown, he comes from one of the very best high
01:05 school programs in the country when it comes to developing cornerbacks
01:09 and defensive backs, so Demarie Brown out of American heritage is probably
01:12 more ready than most freshmen would be.
01:14 A guy like Ruben Bain.
01:16 Ruben Bain will likely be a second teamer, not a first teamer, but if he
01:20 does end up starting some games, I think he's ready and he's better than most
01:25 of the defensive ends in the ACC right now.
01:27 Mark Fletcher, I don't think will be a starting running back, but probably
01:31 second or third team, and he's going to play a lot, especially in the red zone
01:34 because he's more powerful than Miami's other backs, Ray, Ray Joseph, probably
01:38 a second or third teamer, but he's going to get on the field at receiver and slot
01:42 receiver and, you know, all the new linebackers are doing well, but I don't
01:46 think any of them are going to be starters in my opinion, so, you know, I
01:49 think sometimes when we talk about, oh, this guy, that guy, they're shining so
01:52 bright, you know, only maybe one, two, three of these guys are going to end
01:55 up actually being starters.
01:57 I think most of the true freshmen are going to end up being quality depth,
02:01 rotational guys get on the field a lot.
02:03 And listen, you might have to take a few lumps.
02:05 If you're relying heavily on class of 2023 guys, uh, you know, I don't think
02:09 Miami's going to go 11 and one 12 and O college football playoff.
02:13 Miami's going to lose a few games this season.
02:15 There's no question about it, but, um, I don't think as many of these guys are
02:18 going to be starters as you might think.
02:19 Okay.
02:20 Thank you.
02:20 Yeah.
02:21 Yeah.
02:21 Yeah.
02:22 Yeah.
02:22 Yeah.
02:23 Yeah.
02:23 Yeah.
02:24 Yeah.
02:24 Yeah.
02:25 Yeah.
02:25 Yeah.
