Black Caps batting coach Peter Fulton is satisfied to see his struggling openers Colin Munro and Martin Guptill find form and believes experienced Ross Taylor can be a successful finisher in the three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, starting September 1 (Sunday). Taylor (53*), Munro (48) and Guptill (22) starred in New Zealand's win over a Sri Lanka Board President's XI in a T20 warm-up tie at Katunayake on Thursday (August 29). Batting first, New Zealand posted 168/7. In reply, Scott Kuggeleijn took 4/19 and Ish Sodhi 3/43 as the visitors registered a 33-run victory. (Video Credit: NZC)

00:00 Okay, yeah, Fultz looked like a pretty good hit out there for the boys.
00:03 How much of the squad have got out of that game today?
00:06 Oh, they've got a lot I think.
00:08 We obviously had a disrupted build up before the test, so nice to get 20 overs in today.
00:14 Most of the batsmen got a good bat and the bowlers got through some work as well, so
00:18 all in all, pretty good day.
00:20 The openers Martin Guthall, Colin Munro, they're pretty highly rated around the world cricket
00:23 and they were pretty good today.
00:24 Yeah, I mean T20 cricket, we know how destructive they can both be and they showed that for
00:29 a while out there today and we'll be looking forward to them hopefully doing that once
00:33 we get up to Kandy.
00:34 And the experienced man Ross in the middle, finishing off the innings, it's probably a
00:38 role that you see him doing, he's a bit lower down the order for that reason.
00:40 Yeah, yeah, I mean he's got a lot of power, he's probably over the last few years, he
00:45 hasn't shown it as much as what we know he's capable of.
00:47 There were some big sixes today and again, another guy who's going to be massively important
00:52 for us in this series.
00:53 Conditions out there, are they sort of similar to what you expect you'll face in Kandy?
00:57 Well it was a pretty good wicket and judging by the recent scores in Kandy, we think it's
01:02 going to be reasonably high scoring as well so batsmen are going to have to get into their
01:05 work pretty quickly and hopefully get up close to that 180-200 score.
01:10 Kergy mentioned bowling out there, you had to bowl a lot of cutters and variations, is
01:14 that kind of key over here?
01:15 I think you've definitely got to mix it up.
01:18 I think you also saw, even with like you say with Scott, he bowled a quick bumper a few
01:22 times just to keep the batsmen on the back foot so I think that's also going to be important
01:27 over here as well, that pace that we've got on our side.
01:30 In terms of what the team that you might face over there, quite a different looking Sri
01:34 Lanka squad, what have you made of them through the scouting and the research?
01:37 Well like I say, there's a few changes, a few different names in there to what we're
01:42 expecting so that's caused the coaches a few headaches having to dig into the archives
01:48 but they've got some experienced players in there as well with the likes of Malinga so
01:52 there'll be some new guys but we're just trying to focus on what we do first and foremost
01:57 and I'm sure as the series goes on we'll get a bit more information on them.
02:01 And as a batting coach, how does your role change from test to T20 format?
02:06 Oh well you're talking a lot less about technique probably and a lot more about mindset and
02:11 aggression so as I said before, a lot of these guys have actually played a lot of T20 cricket
02:15 so they're pretty experienced so they don't need to be told too much, they've got great
02:20 records and like I said, hopefully we can get them in a confident headspace before we
02:25 head into that first game.
02:26 Awesome, and how have you enjoyed your first tour and the role of batting coach, how's
02:30 it been so far?
02:31 It's been good, it's been good, it's obviously challenging over here with the heat and stuff
02:34 like that but yeah, really enjoying it and looking forward to these last three games.
02:39 Just lastly I've got to ask you about Tim Southey's batting, seems to be really flourishing
02:42 under your tutorship.
02:43 Yeah well to be honest I haven't given him too much advice just yet so I can't take all
02:48 the credit but yeah it's been nice to see him score some runs and like I said, if he
02:53 can take that into the T20s as well, hit a few bombs at the end that'd be great too.
02:56 Good.
02:57 Thanks.
02:57 Thanks.
