England won the toss & elected to bat first on an Edgbaston pitch that looked like it didn’t have much. India surprised a lot of people by dropping Cheteshwar Pujara & not picking the mystery spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Ravichandran Ashwin produced a jaffer of a delivery to dismiss Alastair Cook. Joe Root continued his ODI form & notched up another 50 against India in Tests. Out of all the 12 Tests that he’s played, he’s managed to score a 50+ score. England looked well placed at 216/3 when India’s skipper Virat Kohli produced brilliance on the field & got Joe Root run out on 80. From then, the flurry of English wickets continued & it looked at one stage that they’ll get bowled out on Day 1 itself. All in all it was India’s day & looks in full control of the 1st Test.
