00:00 My name is Pam Cox, I'm the Deputy Commander of the Eden SES Unit. I've been in the unit
00:07 for 11 years. I joined initially just to give back to the community and I have learnt over
00:14 those number of years so many different skills. Age is not a barrier to learning new skills.
00:21 If you don't think you can do it, you can do it. You can always have a go. And then
00:29 we have these new recruits who are just learning. Hi, I'm Hayley West, I'm new, I think I've
00:36 been with the unit about four months now. Same thing, I just wanted to join, I wanted
00:42 to give back to the community, show them that you can do anything, train. With my training
00:49 I've learnt heaps, SES provides heaps as well, especially all the training you need, all
00:55 the uniforms you need and stuff like that. The skills that go, it's a lot more than
01:00 just being on the field, you can expand, which is amazing. If you don't mind me asking Hayley,
01:08 what's your day job, what do you do and are the skills that you learn here at SES useful?
01:14 Yeah, so I work at the Pembulo Minot Cent and we learn a lot around safety, so taking
01:21 that back to work and using that in the workplace to do safety for the people that you're working
01:27 with. It's not just at work, it's these people you work with every day at the unit, at work,
01:33 so safety is one of those big things that we learn and yeah, it's good. And Pam, days
01:40 like today, trying to get a few more fresh faces like Hayley to join up? Yeah, especially
01:45 the younger ones, they don't have to be that young, but younger ones just so that us older
01:51 people can mentor the younger ones because they're the up and coming ones and they'll
01:56 be looking after the community in the next couple of years. Yeah, just trying to enthuse
02:02 a few more people. Thank you very much.
