00:00Now when you look at what's happening in the Shoalhaven, it's virtually like
00:06they're going to centralise the inpatient palliative care services to
00:09Shoalhaven Hospital, which means that the people in this large area further out
00:16are having services taken away from them. I think Shoalhaven, the development is
00:22excellent. Anything you can add to palliative care is worthwhile, but
00:27Shoalhaven should be set up as more the supportive care palliative care unit to
00:32deal with the complex patients, to deal with those who need intervention from
00:36other specialists, whether it be some radiotherapy, some surgery, lung
00:41specialists to take some fluid off the lung, and have the other unit, such as
00:46David Berry, as what we call a sub-acute palliative care unit, to manage the more
00:52straightforward symptoms, manage their opiates to control their pain, their
00:56antibiotics to control their nausea, to give families respite. The families do
01:02an amazing job caring for their loved ones at home, but they get exhausted and
01:07often need a week off just so they can keep on doing it.
