IPL 2022: The Five-Over Horror For Chennai Super Kings Vs Gujarat Titans

  • last year
Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming was upset that CSK lost the IPL 2022 match against Gujarat Titans from a position of dominance. First, CSK could not capitalise on a good start given by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu and then when defending 169 for five, lost the game in the last five overs when David Miller and Rashid Khan plundered runs at will to script a three-wicket win for Gujarat Titans. 00:00 How hard is this defeat? And can you just also give us an update on Adam Milne's fitness
00:23 and how soon is he expected to make a comeback?
00:26 It's a hard one. We had times, we had pockets in the game where we were well in control
00:30 with the bat and then with the start we had we were in really good shape. So lose games
00:35 like that where you play a fair bit of it in front is often hard to take but they played
00:41 very well to take it away from us. We could have been better in some departments but they
00:46 still played very well. Adam's progressing, obviously not as quick as what we would like
00:51 him to be. So we're monitoring him very closely and hoping for some improvement. But yeah,
00:57 it is taking a little bit of time.
00:59 Is bowling has been a weak spot for CSK this season. With Deepak Chahar out, have you thought
01:05 about any replacements for the remainder of the tournament?
01:10 Yeah we're looking. We've got still some talent within our squad that hasn't had the opportunity,
01:16 which is hard in a tournament where you're behind the eight ball. It's a lot easier to
01:21 try combinations when you're winning games. But we're really in a must-win situation so
01:26 we've been conservative with our selections. We've got some talent within our side that
01:29 we'd so like to see and see how they respond under pressure. And also that with 10 teams
01:35 there's not a lot of talent that hasn't been picked over. But yeah, we're aware we can
01:40 get a replacement but we're still very aware there's some untapped talent within our side.
01:44 Would you say that Shivam Dubey not being able to take the catch of David Miller was
01:49 the turning point of the game or do you think Rashid's knock neutralised that effect?
01:54 I think there were a lot of moments throughout the match that he could over-analyse. But
02:00 the two contributing factors was an outstanding innings from David Miller and a very good
02:05 cameo from Rashid towards the end. The other aspect that was notable was the last five
02:12 overs in our innings where they bowled well and we didn't capitalise on what was a very
02:17 good base. So there were some key moments throughout but they were the two areas. The
02:22 last five overs for us with the bat and the last five overs when they batted, quite a
02:27 distinct difference in scoring.
