International fashion retailers leave Myanmar for alleged workers abuse

00:10 United Kingdom, has been following 156 cases of alleged labor abuses in Myanmar's garment
00:16 factories from February 2022 to February 2023.
00:21 That's 56 cases higher in the previous year, a telltale sign that workers' rights have
00:25 been deteriorating since the military coup in February 2021.
00:30 Among the allegations are wage reduction, wage theft, unfair dismissal, inhumane work
00:35 rates and forced overtime.
00:37 Inditex, the Spanish company behind the top fashion retailer Zara, Primark and Marks & Spencer
00:42 have already phased out purchases from the Southeast Asian country.
00:46 Of late, the world's second largest fashion retailer, H&M, is following up on 20 cases
00:51 of alleged abuses of garment workers in Myanmar.
00:55 military government has yet to comment on the allegations.
