00:00 Australia's involvement began in August of '62 when 30 personnel were sent across to Vietnam
00:08 to train Vietnamese soldiers of the South Vietnamese Army and to maintain their equipment.
00:18 Australian combat troops were committed to Vietnam in 1965.
00:21 Over the next eight years, approximately 60,000 Australian soldiers would serve in Vietnam
00:26 between 1965 and 1973.
00:31 Around this time, a national service scheme, a form of conscription which makes over, which
00:37 males over the age of 20 would be selected by a birthday ballot was announced.
00:44 Today, we remember those who served and made sacrifices in the Vietnam War.
00:49 We honour the 521 who gave their lives.
00:53 We remember the over 3,000 Australians who were physically wounded and many more who
00:58 suffered psychological or moral wounds as a consequence.
01:04 While your reception when you returned home was way less than what you should have received,
01:08 I say this to each and every one of you.
01:12 We honour you and we thank you for your service.
01:16 Thank you.
