00:00 I'm Oli Davis, welcome to the WrestleTalk News - where our top story today, on the same
00:10 week as All In, potentially the biggest pro wrestling show of all time, is news a major
00:17 WWE star could defect to AEW… in about a month.
00:24 Yes, Edge.
00:25 Nope.
00:26 Wrong Edge.
00:27 Edge celebrated the 25th anniversary of his WWE career on the 18th August episode of SmackDown,
00:33 wrestling a great match against Sheamus, who was one of those who helped train Edge to
00:36 return back in 2020.
00:38 The show took place in Toronto, Edge's hometown, and was seen as a potential retirement.
00:43 Mostly because that's what Edge had been telling everyone for about a year - that he
00:47 was going to retire at the 2023 Summer Show in Toronto.
00:51 Wrestling Observer Radio reported Edge was hoping that show was going to be a SummerSlam,
00:55 but Detroit got that instead, so Edge's potential last wrestling match ever was an
00:59 episode of SmackDown.
01:01 Which is kind of fitting for the man who defined that show in the noughties.
01:05 But despite Edge's long-time trainer Ron Hutchinson reportedly telling people recently
01:09 Edge was going to retire, speculationamania is now running wild that it wasn't Edge's
01:15 wrestling career that's over, maybe it's just the WWE part.
01:18 Edge admitted he doesn't know about his long-term wrestling future in an interview
01:22 with ET Canada leading up to his 25th anniversary show.
01:25 "This is the last match on my current contract, so I don't know.
01:29 I honestly don't know.
01:31 I probably won't know until I get to the locker room that night and decompress that
01:34 all the anxiety and tension that I never used to have before I performed, I have now."
01:39 He gave more details to Sportsnet's The Fan Morning show, where he revealed "my
01:43 contract is up at the end of September", meaning any next moves wouldn't be in time
01:47 for a certain humongous wrestling show coming up soon.
01:51 Fightful haven't been able to fully confirm that Edge's contract expires in September,
01:56 but they do note his original deal - which presumably started on his WWE return in January
02:01 2020 100 years ago - was probably extended due to the amount of time he missed due to
02:06 injury, the torn triceps he suffered early in the pandemic that took him out for seven
02:10 months.
02:11 Following Edge's 25th anniversary show match, WrestleVotes posted "Asked if anything changed
02:16 post-show regarding the status of Edge going forward.
02:19 Source said he hasn't signed a new deal as of now, and the feeling among creative
02:23 and others is that of unknown.
02:25 The Bull is truly in his court."
02:28 And Tony Khan wants Edge's Bulls.
02:34 Edge was reportedly one of the big name free agents, along with Chris Jericho and CM Punk,
02:39 that Khan approached before AEW launched in 2019 - a meeting that might've prompted
02:44 Edge to make his WWE return.
02:46 Again, according to Fightful Select, Edge's name has apparently been a topic of conversation
02:50 behind the scenes in AEW, even before he wrestled what could've been his last match on Friday.
02:56 Another site's rumour says even internal speculation in WWE is that Edge ends up going
03:01 to AEW.
03:03 Shawn mentions Edge's personal friendships with AEW talent Christian Cage and the World
03:07 Tag Team Champions FTR, with Dax and Cash also helping him get back into ring shape
03:12 ahead of his return.
03:13 Edge is so fond of the two, in fact, he wants to use their real names David and Daniel in
03:18 a WWE segment when telling Beth Phoenix to get some muscle at home in case Seth Rollins
03:22 tries to invade their house.
03:24 Dax posted a photo with Edge and Beth just several days before Edge's SmackDown match,
03:28 apropos of nothing.
03:29 As for the actual nature of how Edge could debut, it wouldn't be at All In, All Out
03:33 or Shake It All About.
03:34 But perhaps AEW's big Arthur Ashe Grand Slam show on September 20th could work out
03:39 time-wise.
03:40 And we've probably seen the last of Edge, as that's a WWE trademark name.
03:46 So start mentally preparing yourself to cope with Copeland.
03:51 How would you book Edge's debut in AEW?
03:54 Tell me in a Texas Chainsaw Deathmatch against Jeff Jarrett in the comments down below.
03:57 We contractually can't have Edge for All In, but two other AEW stars might be making
04:02 their long-awaited return for the show.
04:04 Santana and Ortiz, yay!
04:06 I miss them.
04:07 Oh no, but they also apparently don't talk to each other backstage.
04:10 In my opinion, Santana and Ortiz are in the top five tag teams in AEW, but being in Jericho's
04:16 Inner Circle faction never really let them break out on their own.
04:18 We haven't seen Santana since he suffered an ACL injury in last year's Bud and Guts
04:23 match, and Ortiz has only been around sporadically over the last few months.
04:27 Fightful Select is now reporting though that Ortiz could be making an appearance at Sunday's
04:31 All In show, as he was scheduled for a Limitless Wrestling event that same weekend, but he's
04:36 since been pulled due to an AEW-related obligation.
04:39 Additionally, Fightful is also writing that Santana has now been cleared from his ACL
04:44 injury and has been teasing a return to wrestling on social media.
04:48 With Eddie Kingston and Blackpool Combat Club in the Stadium Stampede match at All In, who
04:53 Santana and Ortiz both have history with, it's likely they could appear as cameos
04:57 or even something more substantial in the chaotic stipulation.
05:00 The only real dampener on this is that they're still not reportedly on great terms.
05:05 Shortly before Santana was taken out with injury, he was already making cryptic posts
05:09 about leaving AEW when his contract expired, and Conan - who is close with the two - has
05:14 revealed on his podcast that they aren't on speaking terms.
05:18 Speaking of not on speaking terms… don't worry, it's not about CM Punk, Segway.
05:22 ECW legend The Sandman has revealed he hasn't been in contact with AEW about an appearance
05:28 at Sunday's All In.
05:29 Which is exactly what someone about to show up at All In would say.
05:33 Following Sabu's random cameo at Double or Nothing, and Rob Van Dam's AEW debut
05:37 earlier this month - complete with original Pantera entrance music - Tony Khan sure does
05:42 love his ECW nostalgia.
05:44 So Luke Owen has been non-stop fantasy booking The Sandman getting involved at All In in
05:48 the office, purely so he can sing along to Metallica in the crowd.
05:51 But Sandman has revealed in a KNS WrestleFest virtual signing "I've never talked to
05:56 anybody in AEW, just so you know.
05:58 Then again, I don't even know if they'd have my phone number.
06:01 I'm so far out of the business, it's crazy."
06:04 What do you mean he's Sami Zayn?
06:11 Up until this point, it was assumed El Generico, the mute luchador wrestler from ROH's late
06:16 noughties, was a totally separate person to NXT and now WWE Superstar Sami Zayn.
06:23 Despite similar moveset, body shape, chest hair, general gait, athletic ability, he was
06:30 the man behind the Generico mask, Zayn.
06:41 In the interview, Zayn also speaks about his epic championship match against Roman Reigns
06:45 at February's Elimination Chamber event in his hometown of Montreal, admitting it
06:49 was a tough pill to swallow to come that close and not quite make it.
06:53 "I'd be lying if I said no, it didn't bother me at all.
06:55 For sure, there was a part of me that had problems digesting that.
06:59 I don't think I'm being controversial in saying this, but I'm not the chosen guy."
07:03 While it was tough to not just lose, but recognise WWE don't, and possibly ever will, see you
07:08 at that level, main eventing night one of WrestleMania and winning the tag team championships
07:12 with his best buddy Kevin Owens was a pretty good consolation prize.
07:16 And thankfully KO looks good to go after a short timeout with injury.
07:19 Owens missed SummerSlam due to a rib injury, but reports had him wrestling both on Friday
07:23 and Saturday night in six-man tag team matches for WWE.
07:27 Coming in with Sami and Drew McIntyre against Imperium, where KO has been getting the win
07:31 pinning Kaiser after a stunner.
07:33 But that's not all that happened over the weekend.
07:35 Here's my 1 minute one take recap of Saturday's AEW collision.
07:42 Kevin Kelly made his commentary return now the G1's finished.
07:44 I already miss you, Rick Abane.
07:46 Samoa Joe came out for a squash match against the Gold and Vampire.
07:50 No not the latest Bullet Club Gold member, but a Gold Body Suit disguised CM Punk who
07:54 attacked Joe and accepted his all in challenge.
07:56 Surely there was a better way to build this match.
07:58 Jey White beat one of wrestling's most underrated performers Dalton Castle.
08:02 They cut a promo on Kenny Omega after.
08:04 And then Juice Robinson and The Guns beat the Iron Savages in a six man Malakai Black
08:07 throwaway Billy Guns boots.
08:10 Who throws a shoe?
08:11 That's my second Austin Powers reference.
08:13 Ruse seemingly kicked out Preston Vance and Drillistico by masked man kidnap.
08:19 Big Samoa Joe TNA vibes there.
08:20 Ricky Starks managed Big Bill, who squashed Eric Neal.
08:23 Sting and Darby Allin attacked AR Fox at his training school for revenge.
08:27 Willow Nightingale beat Diamante, complete with Mercedes Martinez and Chris Stattl under
08:30 interference.
08:31 Powerhouse Hobbs squashed Kevin Koo, then called out Miro for a Hoss fight at All Out.
08:35 And Darby Allin beat Christian Cage in the main event.
08:37 A Luchasaurus and Cage beat down Allin afterwards.
08:42 2 seconds on the clock, I believe.
08:46 This is now my victory music.
08:48 I used to hate this sound, because it just reminded me of waking up.
08:52 Now it's sweet, sweet success.
08:54 But it isn't just All In this weekend.
08:56 It's also the start of the new season of WrestleLeague… where you can compete against
09:03 thousands of other wrestling fans and us, the WrestleTalk and PFK teams, in wrestling
