00:00One of the more somber tales from pro wrestling recently was Jimmy Uso getting a DUI for a third
00:04time and no, I don't have a joke for this bit, here's hoping Jimmy gets all the help he needs.
00:08However, this also created a somewhat morbid fascination in how WWE would react on the
00:13following Smackdown considering a. Jimmy was an integral part of the show's biggest storyline and
00:18b. WWE have a history of subjecting their roster to cruel and unusual punishments for infractions.
00:24Lana took to Talk is Jericho recently to reveal how she was taken off TV for months when someone
00:28leaked an engagement picture of her and Rusev to TMZ and while that's incredibly stupid because
00:32wrestling isn't real, honestly she might have gotten off lucky. Because the WWE history books
00:37are unfortunately stuffed with cases of stars messing up and getting their pats on the bottom
00:41in front of millions and millions of people and then you remember that Lana wasn't lucky because
00:44The Rock called her a whore on Raw for ages. It's like Judge Judy but with fewer eye rolls and more
00:49people having entire Samoan butts pushed in their faces for failing to comply. I'm Adam
00:54hailing from parts of unknown and here are 10 times wrestlers were punished by WWE on air. What
00:58do you think is WWE's biggest overreaction? Let us know in the comments, I'll reply to the most
01:02upvoted comment and also subscribe or else Oli and Luke will punish me on air by... I haven't
01:10prepared a gag for this bit... tickling my balls. Number 10. Take one of these and call me in the
01:19morning. We've touched on this in a recent list of money in the bank cash-ins but oh man it's a
01:24heartbreaker. With the rise of the internet and the transparency that up-to-the-minute news has
01:28given WWE's decision making it's become increasingly rare to see people receive their
01:31bollocking in a public forum. I mean again sorry Lana but like I say it's rarer. However the biggest
01:36and never do that again that Big Dub has dished out in the last 10 years was against Baron Corbin
01:41who misbehaved so WWE took his toy away. His toy being the money in the bank briefcase. Backstage
01:47Corbin had publicly disagreed and argued with a doctor downplaying the consequences of concussions
01:51in the NFL and by chewing him out in front of the boys Bazaar Corbs have seemed to be acting
01:55disrespectively and the ensuing heat saw WWE stripping him of his newly won case in the most
02:00humiliating way possible. Losing via roll up to Jinder Mahal in about six seconds and that's what
02:06happens when you stand up for your friends brains I guess. Number nine. Hot lesbian punitive action.
02:12Let's head back in time to the mid 2000s when WWE was really weird and gross and weird. On the
02:16October 18th episode of Raw in 2004 Christy Hemi fresh off of winning the WWE Diva Search was
02:22feuding with Carmella. Not that Carmella. This Carmella. Remember this Carmella? The two women
02:27will be wrestling at Taboo Tuesday in an audience voted match. Carmella being the dastardly heel was
02:32pushing to do something even tangentially sports related whereas Christy the face said she wouldn't
02:37be happy unless she got to have full sex in the ring or something. To prove how committed she was
02:40Christy then gave Lillian Garcia just the world's most awkward kiss live on air. Lillian Garcia
02:46looked like she hated that. It's because she did as the whole thing was a rib on her to punish her
02:49for what WWE perceived to have been partying too hard on the latest European tour. It's like your
02:54mum telling you to smoke the entire pack of cigarettes only it's kissing someone you don't
02:57want to on TV and that's really weird. Number eight. The butt of the joke. Continuing on with
03:03WWE's HR department and its weird relationship with its female employees 2000 was the year that
03:08Lita became the third part of the Triforce that was Team X-Treme. Matt the Triforce of wisdom.
03:13Jeff the Triforce of plummeting at the f***ing ground like a cartoon coyote and Lita the Triforce
03:18of cool trousers. It wasn't until early 2001 however that Matt and Lita's real life relationship
03:23was made part of WWE continuity. On the February 19th episode of Raw 2001 Matt saved Lita during
03:28her match with Dean Malenko and afterwards the two kissed to a huge pop. WWE wanted Lita and
03:33Matt to repeat the kiss on Smackdown a few days later but apparently Lita refused, makes sense,
03:38law of diminishing returns and all that. However WWE operates by a different,
03:42crueler law than that with Lita being punished for her disobedience by being stink faced by
03:46Rikishi on that Smackdown instead and good lord it was an extra long, extra horrible stink face
03:52at that. Poor Lita it's a wonder Rikishi doesn't start choking on her f***ing nose. Weird company.
03:57Number seven. No hugs allowed. Wrestling isn't real. This is fine. It doesn't matter
04:03Jim Cornette. It doesn't matter. Sasha and Bayley can stomp each other into protons and then cry
04:08and hug afterwards. It doesn't matter. But apparently in the 90s oh it mattered super
04:12hard. Wrestlers would be fined if babyfaces shared cars with heels, shared hotels with heels even,
04:18broke character for even a second. It must have been bloody exhausting. In May 1996 Diesel and
04:23Razor Ramon were leaving WWE for WCW where they'd go on to have, checks notes, moderate success.
04:29On their last night together in Madison Square Garden the two men hugged it out with fellow
04:33clickmates Triple H and Shawn Michaels in a way that would have made Dr Shelby proud. However
04:37while Vince had originally signed off on this display of convivial appreciation because it was
04:41an untelevised house show, a member of the crowd managed to capture it on video and started
04:46spreading it around until it gathered infamy as a relatively rare shattering of kayfabe known as
04:51the curtain call. Furious WWE couldn't punish Big D's and Razor, Shawn was the champ, so Triple H
04:57carried the can alone being booked to lose to Mark Mirror on countless house shows and of course
05:01losing out on being crowned king of the ring losing a first round match to Jake Roberts on
05:05a late May episode of Raw. Number six and they call it moppy love. Tell me if this has ever
05:11happened to you. You're at work, your co-worker winds you up and you take it a little too far,
05:15get into a fight and are called in front of HR. They tell you this kind of thing is unprofessional,
05:19they accept your apology and then they hand you a piece of janitorial equipment and say cool now
05:23tell everyone in the office that this is your girlfriend. That's happened to you right because
05:27it sure has happened to Perry Satton. After shoot beating the piss out of a jobber who'd
05:31accidentally dropped Perry on his head on an episode of WWE Metal in May 2001, which to be
05:36clear is unprofessional and shouldn't be condoned, Satton was punished in the oddest way possible by
05:41giving the world's most embarrassing gimmick. Within a week of the incident on Metal he was
05:45brutalized by the APA on Raw given severe brain damage which led him to among other things dress
05:50up in a bra and panties before finally falling in love with a mop that he once tried to use
05:54as a weapon. He called the mop moppy and theirs was a brief summer fling. They did everything
05:58together before she was murdered by Raven. That's odd but hey Perry gave it his all.
06:05Can't say that he didn't. Number five, Royal humbled. Two weeks ago we released a list about
06:09hazing culture in WWE and how it was bad. This is an example of hazing culture in WWE and it
06:15is bad. Daniel Puda won the 2004 Tough Enough competition. I guess bad things just happen to
06:20Tough Enough winners at the Royal Rumble. Watch your head Maven. In a now infamous unplanned tale,
06:25on the November 4th episode of Smackdown that year, Kurt Angle challenged the Tough
06:29Enough competitors to fight him for reels. Daniel Puda, a man with a five head and real
06:33life MMA training, fought him for reels, putting Angle in a shoot kimura lock which could have
06:38caused Kurt serious damage. As payback for what was seen to be a gross breach of wrestling etiquette,
06:43although don't do unplanned wrestling spots with MMA fighters WWE I guess, Daniel Puda was entered
06:48into the 2005 Royal Rumble in a spot specifically designed to surround him with some of WWE's most
06:54hazing happy veterans, Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit and Hardcore Holly, who's literally only
06:58in the match for the Daniel Puda spot. He gets eliminated straight after. These three lads
07:03proceed to leather the kid with chops and it gets real tough to watch. A rare case of wrestlers
07:08caught giving the green light to go public by the bookers and it's all sorts of gross.
07:12Number four, WWE Weight Watchers Entertainment. Vince McMahon has a muscle fetish and I refuse
07:17to say allegedly I will stand by that statement in court. He likes marbled beef and if wrestlers
07:21don't conform to his myopic standards of chisel then he covers them up like a teenager hurriedly
07:26stuffing his porn collection under his bed. It exists even to this day with Keith Lee being told
07:29to wear a shirt despite being history's sexiest man. Sometimes WWE creative have taken it even
07:34further actually punishing stars for perceived poor care of their bodies. Mickie James was
07:39famously subjected to the supremely horrid Piggy James storyline because she was seen as overweight
07:44despite looking like this. What's wrong with you? But it goes back even further than that,
07:48even to Vince's early years as Big Boss. In the mid-80s, Adrian Adonis began to put on weight
07:53and his punishment was stripped of his badass biker gimmick and was instead repackaged as
07:57adorable Adrian Adonis, a large effeminate man who used gay panic and terrible makeup blending
08:02as mind games. It's a tale with a really sad end as well. After being cut from WWE shortly
08:06after Mania 3, Adonis went to Japan and over the next year lost 100 pounds gearing up for a return
08:12to the big dub. Before he could make that return, however, he died in a car crash in 1988, aged only
08:1734. 3. RVD WAS GOING TO BE A DOUBLE CHAMP, BUT THEN HE GOT HIGH
08:22Health-wise, weed isn't as bad for you as most legal drugs, but it sure is deadly to your push.
08:26In 2013, shortly before a World Championship match at Mania 29 that he was tipped to win,
08:30Jack Swagger was pulled over with pot in his car, then he lost at Mania and slipped down the card.
08:34A more significant career derailment, however, happened to Ronald Van Donald after one of the
08:39infamous and ill-timed arrests in WWE talent history. Going into July 1st, 2006, hot off the
08:45one-night stand pay-per-view, RVD was WWE and ECW champion, proverbially riding high. But then,
08:51in fine Afro-man tradition, Van Don was busted by the cops for literally riding high. After being
08:56pulled over for speeding in a car with Sabu, cops searched the vehicle and found various illegal
09:00drugs, including 18g of marijuana. RVD was suspended for 30 days after going on a brief
09:05punishment tour of Raw and ECW, where he wrestled back-to-back matches for the WWE and ECW
09:10championships and was pinned by Edge and Extreme Big Show, respectively.
09:142. It Spells Goonie
09:16Very few people extort Vince McMahon for money and don't suffer some sort of terrible consequence.
09:21Step right up, J-E-Double-F-J-A-Double-R-E-Double-T, who famously managed to
09:26bilk Big Vince for hundreds of thousands of dollars by being Intercontinental Champion,
09:30letting his contract expire, then refusing to drop the belt at No Mercy 1999 before he
09:34jumped to WCW unless Vince got out the checkbook. First of all, good con, Danny Ocean would be
09:39proud. Second, he's got no problems as long as WCW never goes out of business. Oh dear.
09:44On March 26th, 2001, which was the blockbuster final episode of WCW Nitro after being bought
09:50by WWE, Vince held a special simulcast episode of Raw, watching both shows from the Monday Night
09:56Wars side-by-side. He opened the show by watching footage of Jeff Jarrett saying that after tonight,
10:00he'd be spelling his name capital G-Double-O-Double-N-Double-E. And I don't care what
10:05you say Vince, that spells Goonie. 18 months after he crossed the boss, Jarrett was fired
10:10live on TV, which just goes to show that revenge is a dish best served raw.
10:15And number one, the Screwjobs. Because never forget that despite the Montreal Screwjob being
10:20one of the most significant moments in all of wrestling, the axis point on which the Monday
10:23Night Wars shifted, it was still a rerun. Vince has presided over not one, but two major Screwjobs
10:29as the chairman of the WWE, serving otherwise loyal talent a jagged slice of retribution for
10:34not doing backstage business by his book. Bret Hart refused to drop the belt to Shawn in Canada
10:38at the 97 Survivor Series, so Vince rang the bell on him, stripped him of the title,
10:42and sent him on his way with all the very best for his future endeavors. It is a very,
10:46very well-known story. Slightly less well-known, however, but equally callous, was the screwing
10:50of Wendy Richter. Richter was in her second reign as WWF Women's Champion after beating
10:55Leilani Kai at the first ever WrestleMania, when she got into a dispute with Vince. It's since been
11:00claimed by WWE that Richter was refusing to sign a new contract. Richter claims, however,
11:04she was still under contract, but she wanted to renegotiate it for a better per-match payout
11:09and royalties from her work on the short-lived Hulk Hogan's Rock N Wrestling cartoon. Vince
11:13thought that was asking too much, and set a plan in motion to remove the title from Richter.
11:17On November 25th, 1985, at a filmed event at Madison Square Garden, Richter battled The Spider,
11:22aka Fabulous Moolah in a mask. Moolah caught Wendy in a small package, Richter kicked out,
11:27but much to the confusion of Monsoon and Ventura and pretty much everyone, the ref counted the three
11:32and awarded the belt to Moolah before Wendy unmasked her, trying to keep the match going.
11:36The whole thing fell apart in an awkward mess, with Moolah grabbing the belt and leaving under
11:40guard protection, leaving Wendy alone in the ring, looking furiously down the camera,
11:45right into Vince's soul.
