00:00 The debate over pay and working conditions for staff employed on Britain's railways continues.
00:07 This time, Aslef, the union which represents over 21,000 UK train drivers, has announced
00:12 they'll be taking industrial action on Friday 1st September and will refuse to work overtime
00:17 on Saturday 2nd. The overtime ban will coincide with action in a separate dispute from the
00:22 RMT union, with members including guards and station staff expected to strike. The RMT
00:28 also has a strike on Saturday 26th August. Aslef's General Secretary Mick Whelan said
00:34 they've been forced into this place as the government and train companies refuse to sit
00:38 down and talk and have not made a fair and sensible pay offer. With a spokesman for the
00:43 Department for Transport suggesting unions were deliberately targeting the bank holiday
00:47 weekend, delays and cancellations are expected on strike days and may affect the surrounding
00:52 days too. Those who plan to travel are advised to look into other means of transport if possible
00:56 and always double check your full journey on the day.
