00:00 Okay lads, you both know the rules so keep it clean alright.
00:02 We're on a safe break, we'll stop boxing, you do it immediately and take a step back.
00:05 I'll be on my commands at all times, but most importantly, protect yourself at all times.
00:08 Touch gloves.
00:09 Well here we go.
00:13 First fight of the night.
00:15 Lester's Muhammad Ali.
00:17 In with Francesco Rodriguez.
00:28 Muhammad Ali charging to the centre of the ring.
00:31 I've been impressed with Ali.
00:32 I'm sure you have Barry.
00:34 Yeah, you know he's been very good.
00:37 Lovely judgement of distance that he's shown in his last couple of fights.
00:40 Yeah, fantastic jabs we're seeing here.
00:43 Losing those feet, you just see it there, the little adjustments in the feet just to
00:45 keep that distance in a safe place and create the space to throw more and more meaningful shots.
00:52 Yeah, he's been impressive.
00:53 Very sharp.
00:54 Switched on.
00:55 He's got this eagerness to impress and entertain and land big shots.
01:00 See him on the front foot creeping forward.
01:03 As you said, Barry, as he came out from the corner there you heard Dave Codwell say to
01:10 him, listen, keep your distance, keep your space.
01:12 And you can see that he's doing that as the fight's going on.
01:17 Yeah, because people think when you're being aggressive that you've got to be closing that
01:20 distance and you have got to steal the space, but you've still got to get even on the end
01:24 of your punches, you've got long levers, you're closing the distance is the length of your
01:29 reach and then you advance beyond that.
01:31 You've got to push him back with the punches.
01:34 Use the jab as a range finder.
01:35 Yeah, the balance as well.
01:37 You see the balance of Ali.
01:39 Very rarely falls over that front foot.
01:40 You see there when he's under attack.
01:41 It's a great shot that was there when he took that front foot on the outside there of the
01:46 left foot there of Rodriguez.
01:48 And landed that little short left hand.
01:51 Yeah, changing the levels, direction of the shots Ali.
01:55 Skip around, moving around to his left.
01:58 Very comfortable coming forward on the back foot.
02:01 An awful lot to work with if you're Dave Codwell.
02:09 Could he get a good balance, always in the centre of his stance.
02:11 He can touch with that jab because he's long.
02:14 Always invites you to throw a punch off it.
02:16 There you see it there, then he can skip, take two little half steps back and then come
02:21 back with some more meaningful shots.
02:23 I just love the way he's just so calm and in control.
02:26 You know, his feet is excellent.
02:28 Yes, he's switched on.
02:29 You see the concentration, the footwork, just spinning off to his right hand side as he's
02:34 through the lead hook.
02:35 Rodriguez is falling into the ropes.
02:39 Rodriguez is falling over his front feet which is making it easy for Ali to just pick him
02:43 off.
02:44 Like I say on his debut, Ali took on Sean Jackson who will be up next.
02:53 Cruising to victory in that contest.
02:59 As an amateur, as a multi-nations champion.
03:01 Record of 38 wins, 5 defeats.
03:06 You see that pedigree in here now.
03:08 Nice and relaxed, composed.
03:11 Fainting trying to draw the lead out of Rodriguez.
03:13 That's a frustrating part for Rodriguez.
03:18 Ali's not giving him anything.
03:19 With Rodriguez's advances, he takes a step back, little spin off the front foot.
03:23 Oh, nice shot.
03:26 Nice positive start from young Muhammad Ali.
03:30 Yes, Shiv.
03:46 Clark just pointed out how calm he looks in the corner there.
04:01 Muhammad Ali.
04:02 It's quite easy, some of these young fighters, I remember myself, like a deer in headlights.
04:06 Looking around, sort of looking about, you know, what mates you can see in the crowd.
04:09 But you can see him, he's focused, he's listening to instructions coming his way from Dave Caldwell.
04:14 Yeah, well, I think a lot of things, though, he's in his third fight now, but a lot of
04:17 things with prospects and early in your career is rushing your work.
04:22 So there is a pattern, especially when you're young.
04:23 I like to improvise 18 as well.
04:24 And when you're young, you want to show everyone what you've got straight away.
04:28 And sometimes if you've got speed, you throw too fast, you throw a feint so fast, nobody
04:32 sees it, it's like a wasted movement.
04:34 And it's about just realizing you have speed, or you have power, whatever you have, you
04:38 don't have to force it.
04:40 Yeah, that's true.
04:41 But then he's also got Dave Caldwell in his corner, which, you know, I've spoken to him
04:47 about that and addressed it.
04:48 Picking the shots nicely.
04:50 At the start of the second round, a screw shot with that left hand.
04:54 And back upstairs with a straight shot, skipping, he likes that one, that it was skipped to
04:58 the right.
04:59 Again, the composure from Ali, so impressive.
05:07 Such a young man.
05:08 See, now, Ali being a southpaw, Rodriguez needs to move his head or be a little bit
05:15 more dynamic coming in because it's going to be a long night for him otherwise.
05:18 Yeah, Rodriguez, he's zeroing forward, he's yet to win in the UK.
05:23 Like I say, on his ring walk, lost to Cody Smith last time out.
05:27 He is gamey, loads up with the odd shot you see there, trying to target the body bits
05:32 of that lack of hand speed.
05:34 Well, he tries to fire off your punches.
05:36 He does.
05:37 But with the feet, with the movement of Ali, he's just, you know, he's falling short every
05:43 time.
05:44 And that's what Sheriff was saying there, falling over that front foot.
05:46 That's the big reason why that's happening.
05:49 Oh, lovely left to the body.
05:52 He tried to follow that up, Ali.
05:55 Dunwall Rodriguez is to tie up the young man.
05:58 Boxing nicely now on the back foot.
06:00 Ali picking the shots, looking for the counter punches.
06:03 There's an uppercut there with the left hand there for Ali.
06:05 If he takes a little step back and then, unless Rodriguez comes forward, there's a nice long
06:10 left uppercut.
06:13 The battle of the front feet, you know, where Ali's a southpaw, Rodriguez needs to try and
06:19 get his feet on the outside of Ali's front foot.
06:22 And Ali's just winning the battle right now, which is making it easy for him to pick shots.
06:26 As you said, the uppercut is clear to be seen there.
06:29 Yeah, some reddening around the face of Rodriguez.
06:32 Taking some nice sharp shots from Ali.
06:35 Again, a one-two straight down.
06:38 I'd like to see more of that actually.
06:41 That'll break him down.
06:43 Just a nice long solid straight right, straight left hand.
06:46 Nothing too clever, but it's hard and it's direct.
06:50 Lovely bit of movement there from Ali.
06:57 Nice work.
06:58 Doesn't get greedy, Ali.
07:00 Goes through the gears, but it's twos, ones, threes.
07:04 Doesn't get carried away.
07:06 And also he's moving around the tag, but they're not dramatic movements, so he's been able
07:11 to punch off the moves as well.
07:13 What I do like about Ali is he takes little steps left and right, and it makes it hard
07:19 for the opponent to set.
07:23 That was a lovely left to the body, and he's really starting to turn the screw now.
07:27 Another very impressive round from Muhammad Ali.
07:33 18 years old from Leicester.
07:36 Let's have a look at some of these highlights, Barry.
07:41 It's all with the feet.
07:42 That's a lovely left hand, but see how he's getting himself in outer distance with the
07:45 feet.
07:46 And because he is long, he can take a big step with that front foot, puts him in distance.
07:49 But again, it's what you do after the punch, and he makes sure he's out of the distance
07:53 and nothing comes back.
07:54 Then he can re-engage again.
07:57 What's impressive is, first of all, he's up against a guy who's won one fight out of 17,
08:03 so let's not get carried away with that.
08:05 But it's the manner in which he's controlling the fight.
08:08 He's keeping his composure, he's not getting carried away with anything.
08:10 Like you said, Darren, he's not getting too greedy with his success.
08:14 He's doing everything correct, making sure he's not catching any fire coming back.
08:18 It's a good mature display.
08:20 Yeah, totally agree.
08:22 I'm sure Dave Colbert will be happy with his charge to go into the third round of this
08:28 one.
08:29 Again, Ali holding centre ring.
08:32 Look at the draw out of the lead.
08:34 He can fire back with the counters.
08:37 Ali's actually come out and he's orthodox now.
08:39 He switched back to southpaw.
08:41 Well spotted, well spotted.
08:43 No he never, it never happens, Shep.
08:45 Just making it up.
08:46 But again, you know, and it's hard to explain to people who are not involved in boxing.
08:52 So why are we giving him praise when he's boxing a guy who's only won, who's lost 16
08:58 fights?
08:59 But it's, you know he's doing things what he's doing in the gym and he's transferring
09:02 it into the ring.
09:03 You can see it clearly.
09:04 Listen to the corner, as Shep said earlier on, and transferring those instructions into
09:08 a real fight life scenario.
09:10 And that's a...
09:11 Oh!
09:12 Good shot.
09:13 Lovely shot with that left hand.
09:16 Looks unsteady, Rodriguez.
09:19 And out of nowhere, blistering pace and speed with the shot.
09:24 Run straight out to the center of the ring.
09:26 Looking to finish.
09:27 Good variation.
09:28 Working the body well, Ali.
09:29 He's not headhunting.
09:30 Nice left to the head again.
09:32 Beautiful work from the 18 year old from Leicester.
09:37 Again that right to the body, sickening shot.
09:39 He's done well to stay on his feet, Rodriguez.
09:42 But he's looking very impressive here, Ali.
09:45 And the towel comes in.
09:46 Ali registers his first stoppage.
09:51 And you can see what it means to him and his coach, Dave Colwell.
09:55 Fantastic display from Ali there, Barry.
09:59 I'd say so.
10:00 We're saying about that, why we're singing this praising is the guy who's lost 16 fights
10:05 over 17.
10:06 He's been stopped three times.
10:08 He took an absolute hammering there.
10:10 And the way he finished that there, Ali, really wasted the shot there in that little flip.
10:16 Lovely combination to finish it off.
10:18 Look, simple.
10:19 The reason why we're praising him is because fighting an opponent like this, he could easily
10:22 drop down to his level.
10:23 Let's have a look at the knockdowns here.
10:24 I don't think he dropped down to the level.
10:25 Look at this though.
10:26 The fact that he has that awareness, that's a lovely shot.
10:27 I thought it was a body shot that finished up in the second there.
10:33 But maintaining the distance, throwing his punches, keeping his composure, not getting
10:39 carried away, not getting scrappy or any wide shots coming in.
10:43 And that's a good little performance from him.
10:45 No, it's a great performance.
10:46 And that's what I'm saying is he could have dropped down to his level, but he stayed composed,
10:50 picked his shots.
10:51 And look, he got him out there in spectacular fashion.
10:54 And you're watching a guy here, a young man, again, who's not full of fire, thinking before
11:02 he throws.
11:03 That's very, very impressive.
11:05 Yeah, very, very impressive display.
11:08 Ladies and gentlemen, referee Ryan Churchill calls a halt to this contest as the red corner
11:14 throws in the towel.
11:15 The official time of the stoppage, one minute and 20 seconds of round number three, declaring
11:21 your winner by TKO.
11:24 He's still undefeated.
11:26 Muhammad Ali.
11:31 Very good performance from young Muhammad Ali.
11:35 He moves to three and O. He'd be over the moon with that.
11:39 Very, very good show.
11:40 Just a bit of everything there.
11:41 in a way we used a lot in those first
