00:22 They've come for the child.

00:24 Gareth has this ability to inject compassion

00:28 in a sci-fi genre

00:30 that usually leans on spectacle and danger.

00:34 Gareth Edwards, he is a visionary.

00:37 And these characters are all relatable

00:39 and you fall in love with them.

00:41 I thought, "Oh my God, sign me up.

00:43 I want to be a part of this."

00:45 What jumped out was the magical realism

00:48 that he was able to execute.

00:50 The depth and the motion that he was able to capture

00:53 in every frame.

00:54 They're my family.

00:55 They're not people, Maya.

00:56 They're not real.

00:58 You and I are real.

00:59 This isn't real.

01:01 The film deals with a lot of big themes

01:04 like what does it mean to be human?

01:07 And what does it mean to be alive?

01:09 And can love transcend those divides and boundaries?

01:15 Should we destroy it?

01:17 Everyone ready?

01:18 And action.

01:19 Gareth shoots in a way that a lot of actors love

01:23 because he doesn't like to cut.

01:25 Keep going.

01:26 I love that process where we do these rounds

01:29 of just takes.

01:30 And roll.

01:31 He operates the camera himself.

01:33 You know, he knows what he wants.

01:35 Gareth is not afraid to try anything.

01:38 And anything goes.

01:39 We really went for broke.

01:43 It's just a really insane, rich, visual journey

01:47 that I hope affects people in the way that I was affected

01:51 when cinema blew my mind as a kid.
