00:00 August is National Peach Month and
00:02 join me is registered dietitian
00:03 Carly Hart. Tell us about the
00:05 importance of eating peaches and
00:07 showing us some yummy peach dishes
00:09 that I have here and also you have
00:11 at your house there. Hi Carly,
00:13 how you doing? I'm good. How are you?
00:15 Good, let's talk about how important
00:17 peaches are 'cause I think people
00:19 people think of peaches of course
00:21 for pies and just to eat by itself.
00:23 But there's a lot you could do with it,
00:26 but they're very healthy for you too,
00:28 right? They. Yeah, absolutely.
00:30 So peaches are a great source of both
00:33 soluble and insoluble fiber for us,
00:35 and that's really important just
00:37 to help stabilize blood sugar.
00:39 You know, regulate cholesterol
00:40 levels in our blood and then aid in
00:43 overall just satiety and digestion.
00:45 Yeah, can we put a little myth to sleep?
00:49 And that is it's OK to have natural sugars.
00:53 Not a lot of it, 'cause that's some people go.
00:57 Well, peaches are so sweet
00:59 you're not supposed to have them.
01:01 No, they're actually good for you.
01:02 It's just in moderation. Am I right?
01:05 Yes, you're absolutely right.
01:06 You know it, you know they're just
01:08 so sweet and a great natural sugar.
01:10 They're super great for you.
01:11 They're full of other vitamins and minerals.
01:13 It's something we don't want
01:15 to take out of the diet.
01:17 I like it. OK, I've been making
01:19 making some peach cocktails,
01:20 but we're going to make some
01:22 peach dishes with it.
01:23 So let's talk about some of the
01:24 things that we can make very easy.
01:26 I want to start with me down here
01:28 'cause I got this.
01:29 Is this a dessert right here?
01:31 What do we have?
01:32 If you can see right in front of me,
01:35 what do I have going on?
01:36 Yeah, so this first one,
01:38 which is the one I have right over here.
01:41 It's a brie cheese peach dip,
01:42 and so this is something you can
01:44 bring to your next family gathering
01:46 as an appetizer or you know,
01:48 football season is coming up.
01:50 This would be a great thing to
01:52 bring to those football parties,
01:53 so it's just some brie cheese
01:55 on top. Pop it in the oven.
01:57 Cook it for about 15 minutes and
01:59 then you top it with some chopped
02:01 up rosemary, some pine nuts,
02:03 and then just a drizzle of honey on top.
02:05 Oh my goodness, if you that looks so
02:07 delicious and just some regular
02:09 crackers just to dip in there.
02:10 I like can you do bread or does be crackers?
02:13 Yeah, no, you could do bread.
02:15 You could do crackers.
02:16 You could do tortilla chips if you want.
02:18 Whatever you want to serve
02:19 alongside of it at the dip.
02:20 I like it. OK, there's a sandwich
02:22 right there in front of you.
02:24 Is that is that a peach sandwich?
02:26 Yes, you're absolutely right.
02:28 So this is a twist on a grilled cheese
02:30 and it's actually my new favorite
02:32 grilled cheese hands down.
02:34 So it's sourdough bread.
02:35 I spread some ricotta cheese on both sides.
02:40 Put in some sliced fresh peaches,
02:42 some white cheddar cheese,
02:43 a drizzle of honey,
02:44 and then you're just going to
02:46 heat it up on the stovetop like
02:49 you would a regular grilled cheese.
02:51 You know, over medium high heat
02:53 until that cheese is cooked and
02:55 melted and then just how the bread
02:57 is a little crusted over golden
02:59 texture. I like that very good.
03:01 OK, we are going to make a well.
03:04 You're going to make it.
03:05 I already have it here,
03:06 but this is a peach like salsa.
03:09 Is that what we're doing?
03:10 Yeah, absolutely.
03:11 A peach salsa which have you ever thought
03:13 to use peaches in a salsa before.
03:15 So you know, I I think people have,
03:17 but you don't really notice
03:18 because it's so sweet and you're like,
03:19 oh, those are peaches in there.
03:20 So very good.
03:21 Alright, let's make it.
03:23 Where do we start?
03:25 OK, so we start with just two cans
03:27 of the shoe peg white corn,
03:28 which is what I have here in the center.
03:31 I'm going to add in some just
03:32 chopped up diced red onions.
03:34 Alright. This is some slice
03:39 of green onions to go in there.
03:41 The star of the show.
03:46 These are actually canned petite peaches,
03:50 so I'm just putting those in here too.
03:51 And let's talk about like can peaches
03:54 sometimes get a bad rap 'cause
03:55 they're in the can, but they're still good.
03:57 They're still good to do some dishes, right?
03:59 Absolutely, whether you choose fresh
04:02 peaches or canned peaches or even
04:05 frozen peaches, you know all of those
04:07 are great to use in your diet.
04:08 I like it. OK, where else do we get in there?
04:10 OK, so the next is up some chopped up cilantro.
04:14 OK.
04:15 And some diced up jalapenos.
04:18 Got it.
04:19 And then just some lime juice right here.
04:24 OK, how much lime juice should we use?
04:26 I use just enough juice of two limes,
04:29 but you know you can adjust that to
04:32 how you want depending on how
04:33 much juice you want in there.
04:34 Got it OK and our last thing.
04:36 Lastly, just a little bit of olive oil in here
04:39 and then just some salt and pepper in
04:42 there just for a little bit of taste.
04:44 I like it.
04:45 I like this.
04:45 A pretty easy dish to do.
04:47 So easy, it doesn't take
04:49 much time to make it all.
04:50 So there it is and then
04:52 just mix it all up together.
04:53 Yep, mix it all up and then usually
04:56 I let it stand for about 15 or 20
04:58 minutes before serving just so it can
05:00 really soak up all those flavors.
05:01 So I love it and there goes ours right there.
05:04 So all set ready to go.
05:06 So this is a great,
05:07 especially with our heat down here.
05:08 It's it's time.
05:09 Perfect timing for it, which is I love it.
05:11 So we're going to find out more
05:13 information about peaches and you.
05:15 And of course having a great
05:16 diet in general.
05:18 Yeah, so you can find us over at
05:21 camelbacknutritionwellness.com.
05:24 We'd be happy to chat with you guys further.
05:27 I like it.

05:30 Thank you for the dishes.
05:31 And again, if you want to make my peach
05:33 drink, you can head over to my Instagram

05:37 I like to do my smash the peaches out.
05:39 It's good, so there you go.
05:41 Thank you.
05:41 Thank you, Carly.
05:43 Thank you so much.
05:44 I love it.
