00:00 One of the hottest topics over the past 15 to 20 years in college football is the Heisman
00:07 Trophy.
00:08 Who has it and who doesn't have it?
00:10 Technically, Reggie Bush does not have a Heisman Trophy, even though he did earn it on the
00:13 field, but it's what he did off the field that got his Heisman Trophy taken away from
00:19 him.
00:20 But also Reggie Bush now is filing a defamation suit against the NCAA in a bid to have his
00:24 records restored in his Heisman return.
00:27 Kevin and I clash all the time on this, whether it's on TV or radio.
00:32 And I don't know because I'm a little bit more old school, but I'm always of the notion
00:35 here for me, and I know this isn't the perception of most people or even his teammates in the
00:40 past.
00:41 If I'm that liner, I never pick up the phone for Reggie Bush ever again.
00:44 Because when I look in the record books, USC didn't win any championships.
00:48 If I'm Reggie Bush myself, I don't have a Heisman Trophy.
00:50 The only person I blame is me.
00:53 Every single player on that USC football team that played with Reggie Bush, that had their
00:57 championships taken away and their wins, I would never pick up the phone and answer his
01:03 phone call because Reggie Bush, "Give it back to me.
01:06 You're now allowed to take money."
01:07 You broke the cardinal sin at USC was don't put yourself above the team.
01:13 Don't get a house for your family.
01:15 Don't get cash for yourself.
01:16 Don't get cars.
01:18 Don't do any of that stuff.
01:19 Just play football and those riches will be there for you in the NFL.
01:23 Granted, yes, times have changed.
01:25 But if the Sports Grid Network told me, "Donnie, if you wear a red blazer on air, we will fire
01:30 you."
01:31 And three years later, if you're allowed to wear red blazers on the Sports Grid Network,
01:34 I'm not going to go back to the Sports Grid Network and say, "I'm going to sue you because
01:38 now you're allowed to wear red blazers."
01:40 It's just my opinion on Reggie Bush, Mark.
01:43 What is your opinion on Reggie Bush getting his Heisman back, suing the NCAA?
01:47 Big deal, no deal.
01:48 What is it?
01:50 Well first, red blazer is an outstanding fashion statement, I think, Donnie.
01:53 I mean, come on now, right?
01:55 Yeah.
01:56 Rock that.
01:57 Then, handsome in red blazer.
01:58 I mean, there is a little bit of a slippery slope that the NCAA has routinely stood on.
02:04 I mean, Reggie Bush lost his Heisman for taking money or getting a house for his family and
02:09 another USC Heisman winner got to keep his after murdering two people.
02:13 So I'm not really sure what the line is in the sand that the NCAA decides when and where
02:18 they do this sort of thing.
02:20 However, for me, I think it would look favorably upon the NCAA if at this point in time they
02:27 turn around and reinstated all that stuff because guess what, Donnie?
02:30 I could show you highlights.
02:31 I can go to YouTube and watch highlights of USC.
02:33 Correct.
02:34 You're right.
02:35 You're right.
02:36 Not of everybody that played with Reggie Bush and Matt Leiner when they were on the field.
02:40 And that's really all that matters.
02:42 You could change a record book, but you can't change history because the records are printed
02:46 in ink and history is there forever.
02:50 So I don't put too much stock into this stuff.
02:53 I get where you're coming from and I agree at the time it was a rule.
02:56 You broke a rule, there is a consequence.
02:58 But that doesn't mean that as rules change and everything else, we can't go back and
03:01 sort of go, "Okay, now that we've changed the ruling on this, yeah, guess what?"
03:05 I mean, it's kind of like now that we've finally started testing for steroids in baseball,
03:11 we have a line of demarcation of who did what and where.
03:14 We know how to write the record books accurately based off of the information that we have
03:18 now that we didn't have then.
03:20 And it's okay to make that adjustment.
