00:00 Back to school, no lessons as the hard work is done.
00:05 Oh! Oh my god!
00:09 It's GCSE results day.
00:11 I got a 5 in maths. I've never passed a maths before. Oh my god.
00:18 Students coming into the morning school today knew the national pass rates have fallen.
00:23 A planned move to bring grades back to pre-pandemic levels.
00:28 Not what I expected but I'm extremely happy about it.
00:31 Which way, better or worse?
00:32 Better, definitely better.
00:34 But students here generally did better.
00:36 Since the school's 2019 Austin inspection, they've gone from requires improvement to good.
00:42 Our pupils have received the highest pass rates across English and maths combined that we've ever had as a school.
00:50 And yeah, we are so proud of our pupils and what they've achieved.
00:55 But the leadership here could have never expected the COVID pandemic.
00:59 Those passing today spent most of their time learning at home.
01:03 That was challenging. You didn't have the support you didn't have.
01:08 So it really down to yourself, especially when you have parents who are out doing jobs or siblings who are going to school earlier or things like that.
01:15 And especially in year 9 when you would go in and out of Northbound, it would just mess up the entire schedule.
01:20 And others had personal challenges.
01:22 3 9s, I got 5 8s and 1 7. I'm very happy and very surprised.
01:29 So I suffered with IBD, colitis. So I had to work around that all the time and I was having hospital appointments.
01:38 So in and out of hospital, whilst in GCSEs.
01:42 Yeah, so it was very difficult to manage with all of the school work and trying to catch up with everything.
01:49 Grades received today will influence their post 16 options.
01:54 Wow, that's really good.
01:56 What grades did you get?
01:58 7 7 in combined science, 6 in geography, 7 in maths, 6 in French, 6 in English language and literature and then 7 in computer science and level 2 distinction in BTEC sport.
02:12 Well done. Thank you.
02:13 And what's next?
02:14 Hopefully sixth form. I mean, I got the grades, so let's do it.
02:17 Well GCSE results day is definitely a nerve-wracking day. I remember it well.
02:21 Well, many students here are off to sixth form, but there are plenty of other options, such as taking T levels, going to college or an apprenticeship.
02:30 Gabriel Morris for KTV in East Morling.
