00:00 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:06 >> Hey, Brock, I don't think we've seen you since SEC media days.
00:09 I wanted to hear you, how was the experience for you in Nashville?
00:13 >> It was good, it was a little different.
00:16 I mean, it was a lot of talking, just all day.
00:19 It was kind of exhausting, but it was good, it was fun.
00:22 [BLANK_AUDIO]
00:28 >> Hey, Brock, I talked to Sed a little bit earlier about this, but
00:32 I know a big time Edge rusher coming here from UT Martin is Dalyn Dotson.
00:38 I wanted to ask, number one, for reference, I wanted to ask,
00:42 what have you seen from him?
00:44 And what are you kind of expecting from him, especially when you do have to run
00:47 block and possibly go against a guy like that?
00:50 >> Yeah, I mean, it's been so good.
00:52 I mean, we play against some really good dudes here too.
00:55 So I feel like that gets us ready for those kind of matches that we're gonna get
01:00 this week and the rest of the season.
01:01 So yeah, I'm excited to just get tested and
01:04 get to go against someone else besides our guys.
01:07 [BLANK_AUDIO]
01:10 >> Hey, Brock, seeing Carson over the course of his fall camp,
01:13 where he is now as a starter, where have you seen him maybe grow the most or
01:16 be in the most confidence as he takes on that starting quarterback role?
01:20 >> Yeah, I think a big thing for him was the confidence, I guess,
01:23 that he developed through fall camp.
01:25 And I feel like he just got faster and faster at making reads and
01:30 just, I mean, more reps you take, the better you're gonna be.
01:33 So I think that helped him a lot, and the confidence thing is a huge deal for him.
01:36 >> Brock, Coach said a while ago that one of the things that excites you the most
01:40 about this team is the maturity level of it.
01:43 I was wondering if you could give an example of that, your third year here.
01:47 I mean, what kind of things have you seen from a maturity standpoint that excites
01:50 you?
01:51 >> Yeah, I mean, I guess this example that would be, I mean,
01:55 when we're running in the summer and stuff, there's no one complaining or
01:59 just talking back, nothing like that.
02:02 It's just everyone's focused on the goal and know what we gotta accomplish and
02:06 know what we gotta do to get there.
02:06 So I think that kinda is one of the examples that I saw this summer.
02:11 [BLANK_AUDIO]
02:14 >> Yeah, from going against him every day, what is it like matching up with the
02:17 secondary, especially with Javon at safety, maybe Tyke playing a lot of start?
02:20 What do you observe from them going against him in practice?
02:23 >> I mean, going against them every day, I mean,
02:26 it just makes us that much better, like Tyke and Javon and Malachi, all of them.
02:32 I mean, they're like the best in the country.
02:36 So it just makes our receivers and tight ends and
02:39 everyone that goes against them that much better.
02:41 >> Brock, over here to your left.
02:45 You mentioned the confidence of Carson growing.
02:48 Is it also what he sees on the field in terms of making the right read?
02:52 But is it also in the huddle, the way he's spitting out the plays,
02:55 looking you guys in the eyes and kinda commanding that huddle?
02:58 >> Yeah, it's a little bit of both cuz I feel like he's playing the game faster and
03:03 at just a faster pace, I guess.
03:06 And that's what he needs to be doing to just play quarterback here.
03:10 So I'm excited to see what he'll do Saturday and this year.
03:14 >> Brock, Coach Smart talked about with Lawson out,
03:18 the way that Oscar and Pierce have stepped up the last few weeks.
03:20 What have you seen from both those guys this season?
03:24 >> Yeah, I think Pierce has been a lot more locked in.
03:29 I mean, ever since Lawson's out, I mean, he's been getting a lot more reps than all
03:32 of us have cuz I mean, now there's just three scholarship guys.
03:36 And yeah, just a lot more locked in, a lot more focused.
03:40 And I mean, it's good to see him.
03:42 He's grown a lot in the last couple weeks.
03:43 And then Delp, he's been playing his butt off at practice and
03:48 just practicing really well too, so they're doing good.
03:51 >> Brock, what do you look to develop in your game from here?
03:56 I mean, as more people notice you, pay attention to you,
03:59 it's not like you're coming out of the blue this year.
04:01 But I'm sure maybe more and more attention on you in that offense.
04:06 Do you try to develop little new things?
04:09 And do you have any surprises in your mind that we might see this year?
04:13 >> I wouldn't say surprises, but yeah,
04:15 I'm definitely just working on little parts of my game.
04:18 And just trying to play faster, I mean, just see stuff before the ball snapped and
04:22 see what the defense is doing.
04:23 And just all that kind of stuff, just play it that much faster and
04:27 just at a higher level.
04:28 >> Kirby, we were talking to him earlier about the running back position and
04:33 how they said they're looking at everybody running back.
04:36 And I know you played it in high school.
04:38 How would you feel about the opportunity to do something like that?
04:41 >> I'd be open to it.
04:43 It's fun when you get the ball in your hands and try to make something happen.
04:46 So I mean, if they tell me to go to running back, I'll do whatever.
04:49 >> Yeah, Brock, Oscar had to obviously take a different role this offseason with
04:54 Darnell exiting and added a lot of pretty noticeable weight.
04:59 I'm curious if there was ever a moment this offseason where you noticed that
05:02 something had clicked in Oscar, where he's like running a different work ethic or
05:06 if anything changed at all other than just the physical attributes.
05:09 >> Yeah, I think it's like you said Darnell's gone cuz I feel like last year
05:13 he might have thought that he wouldn't be playing too big of a role.
05:16 So his mind wasn't fully locked in.
05:18 He kind of was, I mean, but I'm just kind of everywhere.
05:22 But this year he seems a lot more locked in cuz he knows, I mean,
05:26 he's gonna have to step up and play a big role in our offense this year.
05:29 And yeah, he's done a really, really good job at just embracing that and
05:33 coming in and working.
05:36 >> Brock, your last two seasons you guys opened against Clemson and
05:40 opened against Oregon.
05:41 Is there a different feel for this year in terms of the anticipation and
05:46 the schedule being what it is?
05:48 >> Yeah, I mean, I feel like we're all just, it's kind of like the same feels
05:51 last year.
05:51 We're all excited to go hit somebody else and go play somebody else in our defense.
05:54 And I'm sure the defense feels that way about our offense.
05:57 And then, I mean, we're just excited to get the season going against whoever it is.
06:01 I mean, they can line the ball in the middle of the street and
06:03 we'll be ready to play.
06:04 >> Hey, Brock, you talked about playing faster.
06:09 Have you been able to do that knowing that you've put on more weight this
06:11 offseason and are playing at a heavier rate than you have in past seasons?
06:15 >> Yeah, I mean, I haven't really felt too much of a difference, I guess.
06:18 I mean, I don't know.
06:21 I think I still feel good out there playing.
06:26 And I guess what I was saying, I was seeing stuff quicker and
06:29 being able to react faster.
06:30 >> Yeah, Brock, I got two questions for you.
06:33 One, Kirby was talking about the heat this fall, and
06:35 I was gonna ask you how you personally pressed through 110.
06:39 And then secondly, how do you keep yourself humble?
06:43 Cuz there's obviously a lot said, even teammates calling you Superman.
06:46 How do you keep yourself grounded with all the fanfare?
06:50 >> Yeah, I mean, the heat this summer was, it was something.
06:54 I mean, it definitely pushed us all in a different way.
06:58 And I feel like that just will make us even better for
07:00 this coming season, just having to go through hard stuff.
07:04 Cuz I mean, that's what makes us better.
07:06 And then, I mean, I guess I just don't really focus too much on outside noise.
07:11 I'm just kind of trying to stay focused on the day by day and
07:15 just focus on me and the team and stuff like that.
07:19 >> Brock, I know the offense obviously has a few guys from California on the team.
07:26 What is it that makes a recruit from the state of California wanna come out to
07:30 Georgia to play football?
07:31 >> I mean, for me personally, people always said that SEC was the best football.
07:36 And I mean, I wanted to come compete against the best and
07:39 practice against the best every single day.
07:40 So that was one of the big reasons why I came here.
07:43 And I wanted to win games and try to win championships.
07:47 [BLANK_AUDIO]
07:54 >> You've got a pretty legendary competitive work ethic.
07:57 I'm curious, where does it come from?
07:59 Where's that sense of constantly wanting to get better come from?
08:01 >> That's a good question.
08:06 I'm not really sure.
08:07 I feel like ever since I was younger, I just always wanted to try to be the best.
08:13 And I feel like that's what really pushed me.
08:14 And I don't know, I just kind of was always in me,
08:19 I guess, to just try to outwork the person next to me.
08:21 [BLANK_AUDIO]
08:25 >> I don't know if you mentioned playing running back or
08:28 what you can do in the receiving game.
08:30 I think you've been asked this before.
08:31 Do you consider yourself a tight end?
08:32 I mean, that's where you're listed, but do you look at yourself,
08:36 no, I'm a little, I'm more than that?
08:37 >> I mean, I wouldn't say I'm more than that, but I mean, just wherever the coaches
08:43 put me and trust me to help the team win, I'll do.
08:46 And if that's at running back, receiver, tight end, wherever they want me, I'll go.
08:52 So I mean, I'm not paying much attention to it.
08:57 >> We have two more questions, Brock.
08:59 [BLANK_AUDIO]
09:02 >> When we had Todd Hartley here, he said that there's times he takes you out and
09:05 you complain about it and he tells you it'll be okay.
09:08 He says he likes that you fight for it.
09:10 Talk to us about what it's like being coached by Todd Hartley.
09:12 >> Yeah, I mean, Coach Hartley, he's, I think,
09:18 one of the best coaches in the nation.
09:21 I mean, I just can't say enough good things about him.
09:24 He pushes the tight end unit so hard every single day and
09:26 pushes us to set the standard of the whole team.
09:29 And we try to do that with the way we work.
09:31 And I mean, he also teaches us a lot of stuff outside of the game of football too,
09:36 like how to be a better father, husband, and person.
09:39 So I mean, yeah, he's special to me in a lot of ways.
09:44 [BLANK_AUDIO]
09:47 >> Any more questions for Brock?
09:48 [BLANK_AUDIO]
09:50 >> All right, thank you, Brock.
09:51 >> Thank you.
