Transcript
00:00 My name is Peter Herbert, I compete in a 33 year old Porsche 911.
00:20 I'm an instructor at the Harewood Driving Academy and I was Harewood Hillclimb Champion
00:27 in 1997 with a Westfield Cosworth.
00:31 I've been coming here since 1989 when I first started competing with a Peugeot 205 GTR.
00:38 The thing about this course is that it's very very technical, you never really learn it
00:42 properly, you discover something new every meeting.
00:47 Also the meeting is incredibly well organised and we have a return road so everything moves
00:52 at a good pace.
00:54 Well the very first driver to take FTD here in 1966 was Tony Langfranchi who was a very
01:03 famous racing driver and since then yes we've had a fair number of well top hill climb drivers,
01:10 rally drivers and racing drivers.
01:13 This is very much an amateur sport in the best possible sense, there's no money in it
01:18 but everybody helps each other, everyone looks after each other and we do it essentially
01:23 for fun even though we're all very competitive.
01:26 That's the beauty of hill climbing, you can use any vehicle, you can turn up in your standard
01:30 Vauxhall Corsa or you can have a £300,000 Gould GR 59, it's up to you really how much
01:39 money you can spend according to your means but it's a very very accessible sport.
01:45 I just locked him!
