00:00 The health department will do its best to provide screening services for tuberculosis.
00:07 This is a big challenge.
00:09 TB cases are increasing in the country.
00:13 Mark Petalco has the news.
00:14 A health expert is again worried about the bad effects of paninigarilio.
00:21 According to Dr. Maria Luella de Leon of the Philippine College of Chest Physicians,
00:25 200 to 400% higher chance of heart attack among smokers than among non-smokers.
00:32 The risk of blood clotting and root cancer is also increasing.
00:36 Aside from heart disease, it also damages the lungs of people.
00:40 It is proven that most people who are affected by lung-related cancer are prone to paninigarilio.
00:45 Dr. Leon also noticed that paninigarilio is not only bad for the elderly.
00:50 "For parents, if you have paninigarilio, your children will also experience it.
00:57 So even if you still have it, it will have an effect.
01:03 And these are the common symptoms.
01:05 Increased sudden infant death syndrome, respiratory infection, asthma,
01:12 and frequency of developing allergic symptoms."
01:15 Despite the symptoms of paninigarilio, there is no cease and desist,
01:20 there is a phlegm, and it is difficult to breathe.
01:22 According to Dr. Leon, these symptoms can be experienced not only by first-hand smokers,
01:27 but also by second-hand and third-hand smokers.
01:30 If not treated early, it can result in various complications, including tuberculosis.
01:36 Along with the National Lung Month,
01:38 the Department of Health of the TB and HIV Tultugan Tarakonsultayo Program
01:44 in the Lung Center of the Philippines has been able to bring screening services closer to people.
01:49 The Health Seeking Behavior was given early consultation by the Ministry of Health
01:55 to address the increasing TB cases in the country.
01:58 "We observe that lung health is still one of the neglected health issues that also needs to be prioritized.
02:06 So we need to inform people that there are screening services available at our local health centers
02:13 such as chest x-ray and smoking cessation services in the Lung Center of the Philippines through our DOH Quitline 1558."
02:25 Despite the benefits that can be obtained from stopping paninigarilio,
02:30 the risk of developing heart and lung diseases is still low.
02:34 So experts remind us,
02:35 "Not everything is in the past. There is always hope.
02:39 So if you are willing to quit, there is a way."
