After India, several nations reject China's new map citing illegitimate appropriation of territories

  • last year
Governments in the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam and Taiwan have joined India in rejecting China's new national map, issuing strongly worded statements accusing Beijing of claiming their territory. China had published a new version of its national map on Monday to correct what Beijing has in the past referred to as “problematic maps” that it claims misrepresent its territorial borders. India, on Tuesday, had lodged a strong protest with China over its so-called "standard map" laying claim over Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin, and asserted that such steps only complicate the resolution of the boundary question. India’s The Ministryof External Affairs Ministry had outrightly rejected China's claims as having "no basis". Yesterday, several other nations joined India in making their displeasure clear to China.

00:13 China had published a new version of its national map on Monday to correct what Beijing has
00:18 in the past referred to as "problematic maps" that it claims misrepresent its territorial
00:23 borders.
00:24 India on Tuesday had lodged a strong protest with China over its so-called "standard"
00:29 map laying claim over Arunachal Pradesh and the Aksai Chin and had asserted that such
00:34 steps only complicate the resolution of the boundary question.
00:38 India's Ministry of External Affairs had outrightly rejected China's claims as having
00:42 no basis.
00:44 Yesterday, several other nations joined India in making their displeasure clear to China.
00:50 The Philippine government slammed China's 2023 edition of its so-called "standard"
00:54 map that still shows swaths of Philippine features in the West Philippine Sea.
00:59 The Chinese Ministry of Natural Resources' latest map included the 9-dash line, now a
01:04 10-dash line that supposedly shows China's boundaries in the South China Sea.
01:09 Philippines said that this latest attempt to legitimise China's perpetrated sovereignty
01:13 and jurisdiction over Philippine features and maritime zones has no basis under international
01:18 law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
01:24 Manila had already protested the publication of a Chinese national map in 2013, which had
01:29 also placed parts of the Kalayan Island Group or Spratlys within Beijing's national boundaries.
01:35 In July 2016, the Philippines had even won its petition before the Hague-based Permanent
01:40 Court of Arbitration after the tribunal had invalidated Beijing's claim of historic
01:45 rights over almost the entire South China Sea.
01:48 The Malaysian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday that Malaysia does not recognise China's
01:53 claims in the South China Sea as outlined in the China Standard Map Edition 2023, which
01:58 also encompasses Malaysia's maritime areas.
02:02 The map holds no binding authority over Malaysia, it said in a statement.
02:06 The Vietnamese government also criticised China's latest provocation.
02:10 It said that Vietnam strongly reiterates its consistent stance on the sovereignty over
02:15 Paracel and Spratly Islands and resolutely rejects any maritime claims of China that
02:20 are based on the 9-dash line in the East Sea.
02:23 Similarly, Taiwan has also rejected the new version of the Chinese map.
