00:00 Authorities are now strictly monitoring the ships that are sailing towards Talim Island. This is the next of the tragedies that happened last July. Ryan Leziguez has more.
00:17 On July 27, the people of Talim Island were in fear after a ship sank. The ship was cut off by a gust of wind, accompanied by rain. The island was filled with debris.
00:33 The authorities were able to recover 10 passengers, 27 of whom were killed and 47 were rescued. More than a month after the incident, the island was once again in a dire situation.
00:50 I returned to the port. The authorities are strictly monitoring the ship, from writing the manifesto to wearing life vests.
01:02 People of the Philippine Coast Guard and PNP were also monitored to ensure that there was no overloading.
01:09 We added more people to the list of people deployed there for public assistance and for their safety inspection before the motor boats left.
01:21 At the same time, we separated the large-scale cargo and allowed them to carry limited hand-carry baggage.
01:32 But the fear that the tragedy brought to the people of Talim Island seemed to have reached its peak.
01:39 Leia, who is 68 years old, was born and raised on the island. She is used to daily trips. But after the incident this July, she was overwhelmed by fear whenever a ship sank.
01:55 You just remember that you were in a situation where you were afraid and you couldn't get out of it.
02:05 The weather is gloomy and sometimes heavy rain falls here in Binangonan. But the boats' journey to Talim Island continues.
02:14 The boats' journey is suspended when there is a storm and the place is placed under storm warning signal number 1.
02:23 To avoid the tragedy like what happened last July, people and cargo are now separated.
02:31 Aside from the storm, another thing that the residents are afraid of is the sudden stop of what they call "unos" which also hit the MB Princess Aya.
02:41 The wind suddenly turned dark. It's like it's going to rain. It's dark. Then when the rain comes, the wind suddenly turns dark.
02:53 It's like a storm.
02:55 It's also heavy and long. For example, it's strong. It's also 10 to 15 minutes. Even if there's a run, the boat will be stopped.
03:08 Some bankers admitted that they are afraid of the tragedy.
03:12 Of course, we are all afraid of that situation because we didn't expect that to happen.
03:21 What are you doing to avoid that situation?
03:24 Of course, we should be wearing life jackets, sitting down, and not being around people.
03:32 The PCG will conduct a seminar for bankers from September 4 to 8.
03:39 We will teach them what they should do if there is an emergency like that.
03:46 We will evaluate them personally so we can see their ability if the same incident will happen again.
03:57 Ryan Lizigues, for the nation.
