00:11 Hey guys, how you doing? Sean Clement again from the Richmond Hill Golf Learning Center.
00:15 I've got a great question regarding the transition of the golf swing.
00:20 Now, to go from the back swing to the forward swing, I've got a couple of analogies to start things off.
00:28 Now, if you were pushing somebody in a swing, you know, you have a kid on a swing and you're pushing,
00:33 when would you push? Well, the swing's going up, coming back down, going up, starts down,
00:40 and then you would assist that momentum, right? Everything else would be uninterrupted momentum.
00:48 It's the same thing in the golf swing. Basically, you're swinging the club without interrupting the momentum.
00:56 You wouldn't grab the seat of the swing, yank back and shove through. The poor kid would fall off.
01:02 It's the same thing with the golf swing. You don't want to yank the club back and push the club through.
01:07 You want to feel like you've got, already have some momentum that you can assist with.
01:15 Now, if you remember in the old days, when they used to swing these hickory shafted clubs,
01:21 they would swing in this manner right here.
01:25 [Bruit de pas]
01:30 As you can see, it's a very sound way to swing the golf club.
01:34 Like in tennis, the handle goes back first, then the hand, then the racket,
01:40 and then on the way through, the elbow, then the handle, hand, racket.
01:48 So there's the power sequence in that swing.
01:52 So basically, everything should feel like it's moving together.
01:57 You are using the turn of the hips to push against the hands, and in turn, the hands pushes against the club.
02:06 So you'll notice right here, the droop of my club, gravity is still pulling down this way.
02:12 What finishes the backswing is just pure momentum.
02:16 So if I have heaved back adequately, given enough momentum, it'll look like this.
02:24 So you'll notice, as I get back here, the right arm folds, and then the wrists are going to hinge,
02:32 and now everything is ready to come back down.
02:35 Now, a great drill would be, from the top of the backswing, to let everything fall through the ball.
02:44 So you'll notice when I let everything fall, it falls through the golf ball.
02:50 It doesn't fall against the body.
02:54 So in order for the arms to fall freely, well, the body needs to get out of the way, right?
03:03 Hence, that squat.
03:06 So when I take my backswing, I toss the arms back with the turn of the hips.
03:16 Then I pull the arms through with the squat of my lower body.
03:23 So it's turn, squat.
03:31 So now you notice how I've got this huge pocket in front of me to strike this golf ball.
03:38 If I turn, and now I'm in my own way, I'm actually swinging outside that target line.
03:45 When I get to the top of this backswing, you notice how I'm floating, using leverage here,
03:55 to float the weight back to the left side into that squat.
04:02 So it's floating back, making that motion very effortless and free of any interruptions as far as the momentum is concerned.
04:18 So I hope Mark that that helped out. Enjoy!
