Rhinos boss Rohan Smith gives his thoughts on Rhinos' 28-12 win at Hull FC and Sam Lisone's three tries.
Transcript
00:00 Ron, what about that from your substitute prop, Patrick? Huge effort from him.
00:05 Yeah, he had clearly some big plays in the game that influenced the momentum, but Sam's been doing that.
00:12 His physical presence over the last three or four months, I guess, has been a real
00:20 upside of our team and he's made the most of his minutes and he's really
00:28 had an impact. So it was nice to get a few tries obviously today, but it was more the impact on
00:33 the game that he had rather than just purely the tries. You must be pleased for him because you
00:37 said when, obviously, he took a while to settle into Super League, you said wait until he's found his
00:42 feet and he's really going to make an impact on his doing. I don't think he took too long.
00:46 I think you guys in the media might have been saying that more than me.
00:52 He didn't take too long, but his first couple of weeks weren't of his standard.
00:57 Wouldn't be the first Aussie or Kiwi to come over here and struggle for a little bit, but
01:01 he fit in with the group on day one. He's been taking good steps forward and I really appreciate
01:07 his leadership and the way that he stepped up in the wake of today. I think we had
01:13 seven or eight of our top 17 not available and players like Sam stepping forward in a leadership role.
01:22 Is he someone that's going to be even better next year with a full pre-season and
01:28 a year's experience under his belt? Yeah, I just want Sam just to be himself and play the footy
01:33 he can play. He's got lovely hands and good intent carrying the ball and he's a good character around
01:38 the group and he knows how to play footy. He's a good man. He's had a good impact on our group.
01:44 And a good team performance overall. Presumably, you're pretty happy with from 1-17 today?
01:51 Yeah, it was a team performance. I thought we defended particularly well. We've got a lot of
01:55 young kids playing in that game there today and we had to play under pressure for a bit there.
02:00 It's another week where there were some dubious calls that didn't sway, didn't impact the
02:09 outcome, but I'm just so grateful that there'll be a replay available next year.
02:13 There's a couple of decisions made there that influenced the flow of the game which made it
02:20 a good contest and I'm grateful that our young players are getting the opportunity to play
02:25 under pressure. It'll put them in good stead for the future.
