00:00 Good day, I am Naomi Timurshian and this is PTV News Now.
00:13 Seizing on the opportunity of the moment, President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr. declared
00:18 the country is more than ready to chair the ASEAN Summit meeting in 2026, replacing Myanmar
00:24 as the host, as the alliance continues to grapple on how to deal with the leaders of
00:29 the country's military junta.
00:31 Myanmar is still ravaged by strife more than two years after a military coup deposed the
00:37 duly constituted government of Aung San Suu Kyi and plunged the country in the darkness,
00:45 dictatorship and authoritarianism, cracking down on dissents and putting nearly all in
00:51 a state of fear and trepidation.
00:54 Two Southeast Asian diplomats attending the summit, who insisted on anonymity, said it
01:00 was a done deal early on when the ASEAN wrote the Philippines extending the offer to chair
01:05 and host the summit in 2026, and which Manila gladly accepted.
01:10 Likewise, they said, the transfer or switch from Yangon to Manila was concurred on after
01:16 leaders' assessment on the progress.
01:19 And a five-point plan conceived two years ago that leaders of Myanmar's ruling junta
01:25 has ignored.
01:29 The United States government says North Korea strongman and dictator Kim Jong-un is paying
01:36 fellow authoritarian leader Vladimir Putin a visit later this month.
01:40 And Kim is expected to offer Putin a deal to supply Russia with firearms and weaponry
01:45 in its war versus Ukraine.
01:48 His offer to rearm North Korea is in response to Kim Jong-un's offer to help Moscow in its
01:54 outer space endeavors and provide the latest cache of firearms.
01:59 Pyongyang, however, continues to deny what the free world already knows, that he has
02:05 long supplied Russia with arms.
02:07 This as White House national security spokesperson Adrian Watson said on Monday that North Korea's
02:14 arms deal with Moscow has been on for the longest time and that Kim is due in Moscow
02:20 sometime this month.
02:21 North Korea is seeking a Kripproko deal in which they could swap arms for food and oil
02:27 with Moscow, analysts claim.
