London schools forced to relocate due to RAAC safety concern

Over 150 schools across the country have been forced to close part or all of their schools due to safety RAAC safety concerns. Corpus Christi Catholic School in Brixton has released a statement thanking Lambeth Council and other establishments to help them relocate. The government are yet to release an official list of all the schools affected.

00:04 More than 100 schools across the country are being forced to re-plan their start of term
00:09 after being told to shut buildings constructed using a dangerous type of concrete.
00:15 The government has given the order to schools found to have reinforced autoclaved aerated
00:20 concrete just days before term starts, with pupils in some schools being told they will
00:26 be learning remotely, others have been able to relocate.
00:30 At least six schools in the capital have had to close with more being impacted, however
00:35 a full list has yet to be released by the government.
00:40 Corpus Christi Catholic School in Brixton have been forced to relocate students due
00:45 to safety concerns and in a statement the school wrote "We are extremely grateful
00:50 to Lambeth Local Authority and to the Board of St Martin in the Field Girls School who
00:55 are willing to accommodate us on a temporary basis within two self-contained blocks."
01:02 Now Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said of those impacted "the majority of schools
01:07 will remain open for face-to-face learning for all pupils because only a small part of
01:12 the sites have been affected."
01:15 But despite the government's comments, Daniel Khabib, General Secretary of the National
01:20 Education Union slammed the timing of the announcement as "disgraceful".
01:25 They said "The Union is not confident that the government has a proper plan to address
01:30 this immediate issue with the urgency it requires."
01:34 They have also questioned how many other schools have yet to be identified.
01:38 The government has still not released a statement confirming the amount of schools affected.
