School absence fines: Would increased fines change your decision to take your child out of school? Is the punishment too harsh? What do you think about parents being fined for taking their children out of school for holidays - fair or should parents be allowed to do what they want?

00:00I think so, yes. I think they should be in school, learning.
00:04I must say, hold me hand up, when our kids were small,
00:08we used to write a letter to the headmistress and just say,
00:11look, we're going to take them over to, you know, skiing.
00:14We took them skiing because we wanted them to learn to ski
00:17and they also learned French,
00:19because the French instructors spoke French to them, you know.
00:23So I thought they'd probably learn more from that week out
00:26than what if they just like, you know, played around at school for a while.
00:31Not played around, but, you know, you can soon catch up, can't you?
00:35You know, a week, you know, if you've gone away for a month or something,
00:38then it's a bit different, but again, it's all to do with money, isn't it?
00:42I don't have children myself, but I think the kids get a bunk off school
00:47if they've done something wrong at school.
00:50I've seen a lot of them running up and down the street, off and on, you know.
00:56Bunking off school, which is not good, really.
