  • last year
Doctors are calling on the SA Government to urgently move staff and patients out of the Pregnancy Advisory Centre building in Adelaide's western suburbs. Almost two months after serious building issues were uncovered, including mould, asbestos and bug infestations, the government is yet to confirm when the service will relocate.

00:00 It's meant to be a safe space for women with unplanned pregnancies, but an urgent safety
00:06 probe uncovered major problems.
00:09 There was obvious rotting in the roof, there was black mould throughout the building, the
00:15 electrical equipment wasn't working appropriately and there was no air conditioning.
00:19 In July, the SA government said it would move patients and clinicians out of the Pregnancy
00:24 Advisory Centre's Woodville building.
00:27 Seven weeks later, that still hasn't happened, leaving doctors unimpressed.
00:31 How long do they have to wait with these known health and safety issues that can directly
00:37 impact on them any moment of the day?
00:40 In a statement to the ABC, the Central Adelaide Local Health Network said it was "committed
00:45 to working through the building issues at the existing centre".
00:48 It said it had received SafeWork SA's inspection reports and was working with the Department
00:53 for Human Services to address immediate concerns.
00:56 The network said it was looking at other sites to relocate staff, but no final decision had
01:01 been made on a new location.
01:03 The Health Department and the Department for Human Services are working as fast as they
01:06 can to resolve the quality of the building.
01:09 There has been seven weeks.
01:11 The inspection that we undertook indicated very serious health and safety concerns to
01:17 not only the clinicians and the staff that work there, but also to the patients.
01:21 Union leaders have met with health authorities to discuss the Pregnancy Advisory Centre's
01:26 future.
