02:03 (dramatic music)
02:08 - Oh, oh man.
02:10 He's got his composer back.
02:11 (laughing)
02:13 - Do you know the story of the Princess Ysa?
02:16 - No.
02:18 (singing)
02:20 Wow.
02:21 - In myth, she was called the Redeemer.
02:24 - So illustrious.
02:26 - I said this child would stop the madness of war.
02:29 - Wow.
02:31 - J'mon?
02:32 - J'mon?
02:33 - That she was to usher in a new age of peace and compassion.
02:37 - Oh, it's Anthony Hopkins.
02:39 - Oh yeah.
02:40 - I was given memories of a world I will never see.
02:44 - Oh, such a...
02:46 - Loyalty to a king.
02:47 - Oh, I see that bird.
02:48 - And love for a child.
02:54 - I could not save.
02:56 - This feels like pure innovation, man.
02:59 - Oh yeah.
03:00 - So fricking epic.
03:03 - What do you think they want?
03:06 - Everything.
03:08 - Everything.
03:09 - I found her.
03:11 - Head scream, Corey Stoll?
03:13 - Are you a child of war?
03:17 - I was taught that love is weakness.
03:20 - This feels like Zack Snyder incarnate.
03:22 - Oh yeah.
03:23 (laughing)
03:24 - With his own devices.
03:25 - Yes.
03:28 - What's up, sip?
03:31 - Look at this.
03:32 - The price to pay for your defiance.
03:34 - Wowie.
03:37 - Damn.
03:40 - Shh, one moment.
03:42 I do love this part.
03:45 - Anime, epic sci-fi, all encompassed in one.
03:51 - Is that a Charlie Hunnam 2?
03:54 - Yup.
03:54 - Are you ready?
03:55 - The creature designs and the aesthetics are amazing.
03:59 - I pose no fear.
04:01 Let's show them that we're not afraid.
04:06 - Jeepers, man.
04:08 - Buckbeak!
04:09 - More than the shackles that bind us.
04:11 - It's also like a pure fantasy.
04:15 Look at this, man.
04:16 - Oh yeah.
04:17 It's got a little bit of everything he's done so far.
04:19 And more.
04:21 - Oh yeah, no, it's all the combinations.
04:23 - And a man can fail.
04:24 But the myth is indestructible to man.
04:30 - It's also got that insurrection uprising.
04:35 - Yeah, rebellion.
04:37 - Protect each other.
04:41 We show them no mercy.
04:42 - Yeah, baby.
04:50 - Who among you is willing to die for what you believe?
04:55 - All of us.
04:58 - He also was a cinematographer for this movie.
05:02 - Okay.
05:02 - Yeah.
05:03 - All right, Army of the Dead.
05:04 - This is his, when they say visionary director,
05:08 Zack Snyder, this is truly a visionary.
05:11 - Child of fire and the scar giver.
05:13 - Oh my God.
05:14 - And he also has a gun.
05:17 - Oh, yeah.
05:19 - Yeah, and he also, yeah,
05:20 he's had this project in mind for like 20 years.
05:23 - Sure.
05:23 - Other than all those 20 minutes ago.
05:25 - Good.
05:25 (laughing)
05:26 I mean, in a way, this almost looks like a sucker punch 2.0,
05:31 not in spirit, not in direct aesthetic,
05:33 but in the way that it's just like,
05:35 everything Zack Snyder crammed into one movie,
05:39 except post all the DC experiences now, you know?
05:43 - Yeah, yeah.
05:44 That looks beautiful.
05:47 - That looks better than most movies
05:49 that are coming to the movie theaters.
05:51 - It does.
05:52 He cuts a trailer, man, like nothing like
05:54 a Zack Snyder trailer.
05:55 - I haven't seen Sucker Punch,
05:56 but I get what you're getting at.
05:58 Yeah.
05:59 - But you see that trailer and you're like,
06:01 this is just all the stuff.
06:02 - That's the only Zack Snyder film I have yet to catch.
06:06 - So you've seen the Owls of Cahoo?
06:07 - That is the, there's two Zack Snyder movies
06:10 I have yet to catch.
06:11 We'll play a reaction before this comes out
06:15 when we are riding that SEO train come December, 2023.
06:19 But yeah, I thought this was an absolutely
06:22 beautiful trailer.
06:22 You can see the Star Wars inspirations,
06:25 the pieces of history that he absolutely adores.
06:29 Also his like obsession with human anatomy as well,
06:32 but also the different creature designs
06:35 and the wonderful ensemble that is here.
06:37 Tom Hulkenberg, I believe, is that his name?
06:40 - Oh, Junkie XL.
06:41 - Yeah, he who did the, you know,
06:43 he was the composer for, of course,
06:45 Zack Snyder's Justice League
06:46 and then Army of the Dead as well.
06:49 And now he's back here.
06:50 This is like a pure passion project brought to life.
06:55 And even though it's a part one and part two,
06:57 I believe that this is supposed to be a trilogy as well.
07:00 And they're also expanding this universe
07:02 into being a graphic novel on top of all that.
07:05 - And a video game.
07:06 - Yeah, and the video game as well.
07:07 So there's so much that they wanna do here
07:10 and you can see it all here on display.
07:13 Like I said, during the reaction,
07:14 this feels very innovative,
07:17 just pure like marvelous creativity at its finest.
07:22 - Yeah, and it looks like it has a little bit of everything.
07:25 Like it's got all that scopic sci-fi stuff,
07:28 but it also looks like you are gonna spend
07:30 a good amount of time just like in the slums
07:33 of this world too.
07:34 And just looking at,
07:35 it seems like he's drawn a whole set of societies
07:39 and stuff like that.
07:40 And I think that's a fun thing to do
07:42 because we've seen him tackle so many expansive
07:44 graphic novels that already exist.
07:45 And now this is him kind of putting all of his interests.
07:49 Again, not unlike what I imagine a Sucker Punch 2 be,
07:52 but this feels like so much more thought out and mapped out.
07:55 It's like it's got elements of Lord of the Rings.
07:57 It's got elements of Gladiator.
07:59 It's got elements of a million sci-fi movies
08:00 you could think of.
08:01 And even though I'm sure it'll center
08:03 on a particular group of characters,
08:05 it looks like, or a particular character,
08:07 it looks like you've got kind of a Ripley-esque lead
08:10 as a through line,
08:11 but you also have this massive ensemble
08:13 and there's so many different design flourishes.
08:16 And yet they, at least as of this trailer,
08:18 feel like they all kind of coalesce into one world
08:21 that I could see how it was Star Wars,
08:23 but it doesn't feel like it was just scrapped for parts
08:26 and quickly repurposed.
08:27 It doesn't feel like the remnants of something
08:30 that was clearly that,
08:31 but it does feel certainly inspired by that kind of thing.
08:35 And yet it also has the Zack Snyder edge
08:38 where this feels a bit more dark and heavy and harrowing
08:42 than what I associate.
08:43 - Don't use my word.
08:44 - Oh, I'm so sorry.
08:45 The duplicitousness of the percolating dread.
08:49 - You got dread.
08:50 - I got dread.
08:51 - And that's all you get.
08:53 - The dread of this world.
08:55 - Boisterous.
08:56 - It's kind of boisterous in its energy a little bit.
08:59 - It's a matter of working into the vocabulary here.
09:02 - The boisterous dread that this trailer puts forth
09:06 feels a bit edgier than a lot of what we've seen
09:09 out of a Star Wars.
09:11 So it feels like you're still getting that gritty,
09:13 you know, like the same way his comic book films
09:16 are sort of adult.
09:18 It feels similar to the Star Wars.
09:20 It's like it's an adult version.
09:22 - I mean, people often chalk up Zack Snyder's work
09:25 to something that in the most simplistic terms
09:28 of being very dark.
09:29 And this actually provided, you know,
09:32 I could see how this was once a Star Wars pitch
09:35 'cause this is all about, you know, fighting oppression.
09:37 It's called "Rebel Moon" for crying out loud
09:39 and it's a space opera.
09:41 So yeah, it makes a lot of sense.
09:43 And, but you do get that quality,
09:46 especially Anthony Hopkins narration of like darkness
09:49 and coming into the light and the fighting for what's right.
09:53 I love everything that I saw here.
09:56 It's really hard to criticize anything, honestly,
09:59 especially knowing that it's gonna be a part one
10:02 and part two.
10:03 And as we all know, Zack Snyder's work tends to work
10:05 better the longer the film is, you know,
10:09 like if this was only one movie,
10:12 then I might be like, ah, it might get a little undercut.
10:14 It might be a bit underserved, you know,
10:17 even I really enjoyed "Army of the Dead,"
10:20 but I still felt like, ah,
10:21 it still has a little bit more room to grow,
10:23 especially in terms of like the storytelling department.
10:25 You know, I still really liked it,
10:27 but there were elements that I thought
10:29 could have been better fleshed out.
10:30 But knowing this is a, they're gonna be released
10:32 as a part one and a part two, like, okay,
10:34 that's the way to do it then,
10:36 especially when you're dealing with Zack Snyder's voice,
10:40 you know.
10:41 - Give him as much latitude as you can.
10:43 - Now all we can hope for is that by the time
10:45 December rolls around that everyone involved
10:47 with the writing and then the acting,
10:49 they get their rightful residuals
10:51 and they get paid fairly for this.
10:54 And I believe that this, I could be wrong.
10:57 You can correct me.
10:58 I think this was done for under $100 million part one.
11:01 - Wow.
11:02 - Like I think of that.
11:04 - I would believe it only because of the amount of things
11:07 he's shot in like his backyard
11:09 that you wouldn't be able to tell.
11:10 He just seems like he's so got the second hand,
11:13 second like nature of the filmmaking
11:16 that yeah, he probably knows how to make something
11:18 look great and also come in slightly under budget.
11:21 - Yeah, the artistic merits here are absolutely excellent.
11:24 I guess that the only thing that can have me a bit worried
11:29 is just some other things that I might've had
11:31 some of those, like I love a lot of his films.
11:34 And then there's a lot of things that I also share
11:36 some of the same opinions on of,
11:38 okay, well I get too caught up in the visual experience.
11:41 He communicates a lot via tone and mood and atmosphere
11:44 and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
11:46 But I guess I'm like, well, if you're gonna be a part one
11:49 and part two, we're gonna be meeting new characters.
11:53 So we really got to get severely emotionally invested
11:58 in them if we're gonna be on board
12:00 for this very epic long journey.
12:03 And yeah, so it's not really a criticism
12:06 of what was shown here.
12:07 It's not even a criticism.
12:08 It's just a bit of a concern.
12:11 So we'll see, I just care about that first and foremost
12:16 before anything else, honestly,
12:17 like I love all that stuff, but before anything else,
12:19 I care first and foremost of I gotta be on board
12:22 for what they're fighting against
12:23 and the motivations and all the goals and stuff
12:25 rather than just generality of good versus bad.
12:28 - I got attached to these characters.
12:29 Yeah, and it can't be too bleak or too overwrought.
12:32 It's gotta also have some spirit of fun.
12:35 - All right, guys, so what did you think
12:36 of the Rebel Moon trailer?
12:37 Did you love the look of it?
12:38 Are you excited for it?
12:40 Be sure to subscribe and click that notification bell
12:42 to get notified when we will, of course,
12:44 we'll be reacting to it.
12:46 Why the hell not?
12:47 - Yeah.
12:48 - It's the one movie we're gonna skip.
12:49 No, we're gonna definitely be reacting to it.
12:51 And so keep a lookout for a reaction
12:53 when this comes out in December.
12:54 Thank you guys so much for being here.
12:56 (upbeat music)
