00:00 Whoa, summer 2023 has been a roller coaster with some significant ups
00:06 But also some significant downs and of course the strikes which are putting some upcoming films in danger
00:15 I've not meeting their 2024 release dates
00:18 So we're gonna take a look at summer 2024 as it looks right now
00:22 But remember some of these movies might not make it although most of them to be fair have already finished filming
00:29 Good job Hollywood, but that just means there's a there's a delay coming down coming down the pipeline after summer 2024
00:36 But most of these movies they'll be ready if they don't do their release date will be for a different reason
00:43 You know Hollywood's always futzing with the release schedule and as we go through this, you know
00:47 We've seen a couple of release date decisions over the past year or so that are so obviously stupid
00:53 We can't believe that they did that. So if you see any of those here, be sure to give a holler down below
00:59 So as Marvel has done for over a decade now
01:02 They're kicking off yet another summer movie season this time with Deadpool 3
01:06 But maybe because this is one of the most high-profile films that was forced to be put on hold mid filming
01:12 Due to the actors strike. Ah the travesty
01:15 Although there are some rumors that the strikes might get wrapped up sooner rather than later because it is starting to be
01:22 really difficult on the industry
01:25 Now that delay though means more bad news for Marvel which has been having its first rough streak ever
01:30 But Deadpool 3 is supposed to help fix that as a no way home, but for the Fox Marvel movies
01:36 Ah, so cool. So cool. It looks fantastic
01:38 If this movie can make this release date kicking off the summer movie season
01:43 It should be huge and will do a lot to return Marvel to its previous glory
01:48 Then while Amanda Seyfried didn't get the role of Sue Storm. Sorry for those of you who are rooting for her
01:54 I thought she would have been good. She wasn't my top choice, but I wouldn't have hated it
01:58 But you know what don't cry for Amanda Seyfried. She's got a cool movie coming up
02:02 This is like her bridesmaids where she co-stars with Ariana DeBose
02:07 Liza Koshy and SNL's Chloe Fineman what an opportunity for Fineman
02:12 Where they are four friends who get a drunk call from an old friend
02:16 They haven't seen in a while who confesses that she's getting married and maybe she's making a mistake
02:21 They write it done to try to help her. This is from Pitch Perfect and sit. Well, she K Cannon
02:28 Helped create Pitch Perfect and then she went on to write and direct the Cinderella movie for Amazon
02:34 Which I thought was pretty good despite the controversy which kind of weighed it down
02:37 But I think K Cannon is talented and I think this is a good cast. So this might actually be something
02:43 As for Memorial Day weekend the rest of May isn't filled out quite yet
02:47 But one of these movies might want to go there
02:50 because Warner Brothers
02:52 Disney's Fox Sony and Paramount all want a piece of Memorial Day weekend Memorial Day weekend
02:58 Isn't even a slam-dunk release date. We've seen many movies die there
03:01 But one of these has to blink because this is ridiculously over scheduled. Here is a real obvious ridiculousness
03:08 So what also Warner Brothers?
03:11 They have the Furiosa prequel with Anya Taylor Joy taking over for Charlize Theron and Charlize
03:17 Theron has made it clear she was not happy about that
03:19 So will she continue to kind of like cast a shadow over this film because of the ageism or will Warner Brothers be like?
03:25 What's it gonna take to make you give this the thumbs up?
03:27 I would do that if I were Warner Brothers
03:29 Although I never would have done that to Charlize Theron in the first place as much as I like on you Taylor Joy
03:33 And Chris Hemsworth is in this as well
03:36 Will it be one of his brighter moments or you know, one of them not so great movies
03:42 It seems to be the his hallmark outside of the MCU besides extraction
03:46 Then Fox Disney's Fox has the latest Planet of the Apes movie with Disney trying to revive that franchise
03:52 But for some reason they gave it to the Maze Runner's West Ball to direct what that seems ridiculous to me
03:59 It's not like he went made a hot indie in between that's his last movies the Maze Runner films, which were okay
04:04 But I'm not like hey give this man an iconic franchise
04:07 And then Garfield is coming out supposedly this weekend, which is a CGI live-action hybrid
04:14 You know you people laugh at Chris Pratt getting all these voiceover roles
04:17 But you know what?
04:18 He's been delivering and this is the movie that Nicholas Holt gets he misses out on so many big movies
04:24 Do to not landing the gig or scheduling issues, but he's a bit he was available for Garfield and you know what?
04:30 I hope it's a huge hit for him
04:32 Maybe some of that Chris Pratt magical rub off on him and then John Krasinski
04:36 Has this quiet place follow-up with imaginary friends where he and Emily Blunt are working together again
04:42 But this time we're joined by Ryan Reynolds and Matt Damon. Oh, that's a lot of star power
04:47 So Garfield can counter program but two of the other three guts to move
04:52 So as you might recall June 2023 was a real clusterfuck just as March was has Hollywood learned their lesson
05:00 They have not because June 2024 is also jam-packed
05:05 The month kicks off with John wick spin-off ballerina and Keanu Reeves so personifies this franchise
05:12 He will cameo here, but will people be interested in a non John wick John wick movie?
05:17 This is a very big test for Ana de Armas. She did a nice job in bond, but here she'll be the lead and so
05:23 It's big test. I think a lot of it will matter will rely on the quality of the fight sequences
05:30 And if there is creative as John wick and then also some of the actors they can get to play
05:35 You know who she's gonna be going up against
05:39 But you know also I think the Continental Peacock show might dilute this brand a little bit right before this movie comes out
05:44 I don't know how smart that was but let's see
05:46 She'll have a fight in theaters as well with Warner Brothers horror film The Watchers
05:51 Starring Dakota fanning and a barbarians Georgina Campbell so nice to see her get a lot of work off of barbarian
05:57 Set to go head-to-head with a ballerina or maybe not because this film hasn't finished filming yet
06:03 So might not be able to make this release date and on that note
06:06 We'll inside out to really be ready this fast. It was only announced last year
06:11 Was it ready two years later?
06:13 Were they secretly working on it maybe?
06:15 But it's part of Bob Iger's plan to bring back the Disney luster with sequel sequel sequel
06:20 Although sequels didn't work out so well in 2023
06:23 So it might not be a good plan after all but Pixar sure could sure could use another one of their old-school
06:29 Mega hits which they haven't had in quite some time
06:31 Although inside out was one of them, so we'll see
06:36 Speaking of sequels bad boys 4 is also set to open this weekend
06:40 capitalizing on the new Juneteenth federal holiday
06:44 But as Juneteenth really become a movie going type holiday
06:48 It still seems very serious to me with people really invested in what the holiday represents
06:53 So is bad boys 4 with all the Will Smith baggage really how audiences will want to celebrate Juneteenth?
07:00 Maybe let's see
07:02 It's very speaking of tests huge test for Will Smith who of course, you know
07:07 This is his first major film after the slap
07:10 He's done a little few things here and there but this is the first real big test to see if he could still launch a commercial
07:16 Film and you know, the last bad boys was huge
07:18 So, you know, it'll be the slap if it doesn't work out
07:22 Then for now the month closes out with Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning part 2
07:29 Nobody's top part one. What a flaw they didn't see that coming. This is the dial of destiny date from this year
07:36 You know 2023 position to open right before 4th of July
07:40 So it plays for both weekends and this time Tom Cruise
07:43 Maybe should be able to hold on to iMac screens at least for two weeks at least may although maybe even not that he only
07:50 Had iMac screens for one week with part one and if part one had done better
07:54 I think that maybe Tom Cruise could have had a stronger argument to hold on to the the iMac screens for part two
08:01 But I think people are gonna he fought a good fight
08:03 But now people have seen how the first one fared or iMacs
08:06 You know screens have and they're gonna be like I think I'm gonna take my chances with some of these other movies
08:12 But you tell me what you think about Tom Cruise's ability to maybe hold on to the iMac screens
08:16 Like if Disney's Mufasa prequel makes its July 5th release date one week later. That's it for Cruise
08:22 He's sunk. That is gonna be a visually stunning film and it will be a largely new story
08:27 So people are gonna show up for that
08:29 I think even though people are a little tired at hot tired and burned by Disney live-action adaptations
08:34 The Lion King is a very special brand and again, it's new. It's a new story
08:38 Then despicable despicable me 4 doesn't need iMacs, but it will take over the Dolby screens
08:45 I mean this franchise is a juggernaut consistently bringing in a billion dollar a billion dollars or close
08:51 Per entry again and again and again and on that note with Mufasa
08:56 They're basically be going up against each other. Can those two family movies go head-to-head?
09:01 Although I'm not sure who would blink because again, they're both billion-dollar franchises
09:05 So who who would move I don't I don't in Universal's really coming after Disney these days
09:10 I mean, I think both of them might not move because I think they're both and maybe the 4th of July holiday
09:16 It's big enough for both of them. We'll see but what are they gonna do about the premium screens?
09:19 I guess it would be Mufasa iMacs despicable me for Dolby and Cruz loses out again with Barbenheimer all over all over again
09:26 It's just it's a
09:29 Mufasa me right we've combined them together
09:32 Then you know, maybe venom 3 could take over iMac screens the week after but the last entry was so weak again
09:39 I don't know if anyone would want to gamble on venom after the venom - but we'd have to know more about who Tom Hardy's
09:45 Venom will be going up against here, you know just to see how the movies taking shape
09:49 But twisters, ah, this is one that a lot of you we discussed this recently
09:53 Some of you are like I'd like to see twisters on iMacs and I see where you're coming from
09:56 It has a very strong cast with Glenn Powell Anthony Ramos Sabrina the new Superman and Katie O'Brien
10:03 Who it looks like maybe isn't gonna get Abby and the last of us, but she's so good in Star Wars
10:08 I'm glad she's getting work
10:10 But yeah twisters and that cast let's go but from the director of minari that's gonna be quite the creative pivot
10:18 Then closing out July is Captain America brave new world, which was supposed to kick off the summer originally
10:24 but got pushback and
10:25 Deadpool 3 took that date because I think Deadpool 3 was considered more of a home easy home run and Marvel's having so many difficulties
10:32 But what Deadpool 3 now on pause because of the sag strike could Captain America 4 and Deadpool 3 maybe switch places yet again
10:40 We'll see
10:41 Can Anthony Mackie though truly take over the Captain America role?
10:45 I really like him in it and I thought he was great in the Disney Plus series
10:48 But not everybody gelled with it as much as I did and made some of you
10:53 Also, well Harrison Ford be a great Red Hulk or phone it in right?
10:57 I mean his Indy did not do well and he was into that
11:00 And will a rainbow of hulks be super fun or more pain like the She-Hulk show tricky tricky tricky
11:06 As for August, this is also an unusually crowded and I think strong month. This might be better spaced out. Let's see
11:14 Now traditionally, it's the first weekend of August which is considered a prime spot for wildcard blockbusters
11:20 The first Guardians made that happen and ever since you know, some have succeeded there and some have not but in 2024
11:27 It's the second weekend of August. It's getting all the action maybe because of the Olympics which actually go through the second week of August
11:33 Actually, but maybe they feel by then nobody will care
11:35 So Sony animations Harold and the Purple Crayon kicks off August for the first weekend
11:41 But then the second weekend of August Lionsgate is going to try to finally release
11:45 Borderlands like why wouldn't they put that in the first weekend of August? That is a perfect first weekend of August movie
11:51 But we'll see how it does in the second weekend. This is the video game adaptation with a ridiculously good cast
11:56 You're like, how did you get Cate Blanchett to do a video game adaptation?
11:59 But it has undergone extensive reshoots and has been significantly delayed significantly delayed and rumor has it that the latest reshoots
12:08 Didn't even involve director Eli Roth ouch, but maybe it worked, you know
12:13 they pulled Gareth Edwards off of Rogue One and that turned out fabulous, so let's see and
12:18 Universal has a horror film as well this on next summer
12:22 2024 every studio wants to be in the horror business these days because it is lucrative and
12:27 Speak no evil has a very charismatic cast James McAvoy. Where you been man? I'm excited to see you again
12:34 Plus Flint strong about real-life female boxer t-rex with Barry Jenkins big summer for him potentially writing the screenplay
12:41 Will Ryan Coogler's longtime DP Rachel Morrison makes her directorial debut?
12:47 Sounds good
12:49 Then the weekend after that Disney will try to revive another Fox franchise in summer 2024 this time alien with Fetty Alvarez
12:56 Taking over as writer-director mixed feelings on that because he has a spotty track record and the cast
13:03 Also seems a bit slasher slasher movie, right? I mean, I'm not I mean, it's not Gourney Weaver Michael Fassbender
13:10 I'm afraid but you know
13:11 I'm open to being pleasantly surprised because wouldn't it be great if alien could come back then this is interesting
13:18 Sony decided to move Craven from October 2023 to Labor Day weekend
13:24 2024 and it has been surprising that more movies haven't tried to capitalize on the Labor Day weekend
13:29 Because Sean she did so well there back in 2021. We'll see how equalizer 3 does this year now
13:36 I mean we have a movie to kick off the summer movie season
13:39 Why not one to end it right?
13:40 But Hollywood has always been afraid of the Labor Day weekend because it's the last summer weekend
13:45 Officially and a lot of people want to just be outside and not go to a movie theater, but Sean she again did well here
13:50 So this is either a brilliant idea or Craven is being sent here to die
13:56 And I think a lot of it also depends on the quality of the movie itself
13:59 Does Sony have another venom one or another Morbius? I think we can't even tell I think it could go either way at this point
14:05 So that's summer 2024 as of right now. Do you see any winners here?
14:11 How about any losers and again, are there any obvious?
14:14 Obviously stupid release date decisions and what would you do about that Memorial Day weekend traffic jam?
