Chief executive Stephen Bettis answers the question: What should Sheffield United's long-term aim be?
Transcript
00:00 My final question is, what should Sheffield United's long-term aim be?
00:05 I think you have to be realistic, you know, I always think you have to be realistic.
00:09 I think everyone knows the vast sums of money in football now and the vast sums of money
00:13 that clubs and owners are putting into football and the reality of the situation is nine times
00:20 out of ten the level of success on the field tributes to the level of investment from an
00:26 owner and it's very rarely that there's not a huge amount of investment going into a club
00:31 and they're challenging to win the league or challenging for Europe, etc.
00:35 So I think you have to be realistic, it has to be attributed to the owner at that point
00:40 in time and the level of funds that are available.
00:43 I think where we sit at the moment, with our current ownership and our current set-up,
00:47 I think if we can continue to stay in the league for two or three seasons then you're
00:52 getting to the point where you're hoping to be a mid-table Premier League club rather
00:55 than a club fighting for relegation each season.
00:58 But I think if we're talking about trying to be at the top of the league and challenging
01:02 for Europe, etc., like look at Newcastle as an example, they're now getting to that position
01:07 and they're aspiring to that but the significant level of investment that that takes to get
01:12 there is a big number.
