00:04 The number of Filipinos who have no job or unemployed decreased this July 2023 compared to June 2023.
00:12 But the number of Filipinos who have a job or employed decreased this July 2023
00:18 according to the Philippine Statistics Authority or PSA.
00:21 According to the data from the PSA Labor Force Survey,
00:24 from 2.33 million Filipinos who have no job or unemployed aged 15 and above in June 2023,
00:32 it decreased to 2.27 million unemployed this July 2023.
00:37 According to the PSA, the unemployment rate in the country in July 2023 is 4.8% higher
00:44 compared to the 4.5% unemployment rate in June 2023.
00:49 This means that 48 out of 1,000 individuals in the labor force have no job or employment this July 2023.
00:58 The unemployment rate in July 2023 is the highest in the past 5 months.
01:04 It was also found out that in 7 out of 17 regions in the country,
01:08 the unemployment rate is higher compared to the national unemployment rate of 4.8%.
01:15 This is Region 5 or Bicol Region with 6.2% unemployment rate.
01:20 Region 4A or Calabar Zone with 5.9% unemployment rate.
01:25 Region 7 or Central Visayas with 5.5% unemployment rate.
01:31 Region 10 or Northern Mindanao with 5.4% unemployment rate.
01:36 Region 8 or Eastern Visayas with 5.1% unemployment rate.
01:41 Region 8 or Caragan with 5.1% unemployment rate.
01:46 And National Capital Region with 4.9% unemployment rate.
01:51 Even if the national unemployment rate decreases,
01:54 the number of employed individuals in the country also decreases according to the PSA.
01:59 From 48.84 million Filipino employed in June 2023, it decreased to 44.63 million Filipino employed in July 2023.
02:11 We saw that the decrease in the number of individuals in the labor force is quite big.
02:19 Year on year, it decreased to 3.1 million, quarter on quarter to 3.41 million.
02:28 We looked at the data of those who are not in the labor force.
02:32 Most of them said that they are shifting to household work, household duties.
02:40 And if we look at the decrease in the number of the class of workers,
02:46 we can see that the number of unpaid family workers decreased.
02:51 So we can see that the reason is that the unpaid family workers shifted and they focused on household work, family duties.
03:04 So that's big, around 1.99 million said that they are not participating because they are focusing on household duties.
03:13 We also have people who said, because we always have new entrants every quarter,
03:18 some said that they are too young to work.
03:22 That's around 1 million.
03:24 And the third, we have a substantial number, 365,000 who said that they cannot find a job.
03:33 They believe that there is no job available.
03:35 But the good news is that the salary of those in the private sector in Region 4A or Calabar Zone will increase this month
03:42 after the Regional Wage Board approved the additional salary.
03:46 The salary will increase from P35 to P50 in Calabar Zone or Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon.
03:55 Meaning that the minimum wage in the non-agricultural sector is already P385 to P520.
04:04 P385 to P479 in the agriculture sector.
04:08 And P385 for retail and service establishments that will not increase to 10 employees.
