00:00 Slime. With thousands and thousands of videos dedicated just to its icky, sticky,
00:04 bouncy, colorful, and oftentimes noisy gooeyness, slime has slid its way into
00:10 our hearts. Here's why people aren't obsessed with slime. Slime has been part
00:15 of our culture for years. In the 80s and on, we had Slimer, Ghostbusters' ghostly
00:19 green and slimy pal. Then Nickelodeon gave us a more watery, falling green
00:25 slime from their show "You Can't Do That on Television." And in the 90s, falling
00:29 slime became even more popular on shows like "Double Dare," where people faced off
00:33 in physical challenges, which oftentimes resulted in slime. With the success of
00:38 slimy shows, Nickelodeon branched out and partnered with Mattel to give us
00:41 colorful, stretchy, fun sound making GAK. Today, YouTube and Instagram are flooded
00:46 with videos of how to create different types of slime. From beautiful rainbow
00:51 slime, liquid gold slime, Nutella slime, and mega fluffy slime, which later became
00:57 a giant slime-filled stress ball. There are whole Instagram pages dedicated to
01:01 slime, with people letting us know exactly why they love slime so much,
01:05 saying, "It's true that it is satisfying for me because I love squishy things. I
01:10 love the sound of it more than the actual video. Did anyone else just come
01:14 for the poking sounds?" Our obsession with slime has even transferred into slime
01:18 challenges across YouTube. In this challenge, which has more than 63 million
01:22 views, kids take a bath in slime. And sometimes, slime is a punishment for
01:26 getting answers wrong. Except if we're being really honest with ourselves, slime
01:30 is not a punishment at all. There is something weirdly satisfying about how
01:34 it's soft, mushy texture feels. And the funny and bizarre sounds of slime too.
01:39 And there you have it. From movies to TV shows, toys, and challenges, we just love
01:43 the messiness, the colors, the texture, and the way slime moves and sounds. It's
01:48 really oddly satisfying. Let us know what you're obsessed with in the comments
01:52 below. For more trends like these, just go to whatstrending.com.
