WDFNL GF: Nirranda wins back-to-back football grand finals

Nirranda captain Reagan Nutting and coach Nick Couch talk to The Standard after winning the WDFNL senior football grand final.

00:05 What's the first feeling, I guess, as a Premiership captain?

00:09 You were there last year, but as a leader of the footy club, mate,

00:12 what's kind of your emotions right now?

00:14 Yeah, no, just really proud, you know.

00:16 Coming through the Droonies for myself.

00:18 I'm pretty speechless, to be honest.

00:20 The whole club, the community, that's what it's about, really.

00:23 We'll look back at this in 10 years' time and it'll be about us,

00:25 but then it's all for them at the minute.

00:27 So really, really grateful and proud.

00:29 I know this club is, I think, three of the last four

00:34 completed seasons you've won for the way.

00:36 What makes this club so special?

00:39 What is it about it that you win Premierships,

00:41 you just know how to do it?

00:43 We've got a pretty good core group there at the minute

00:45 and they've been there for, I don't know, five, seven years.

00:48 And, you know, they're stuck fat and, yeah,

00:52 I don't really know, I'm pretty speechless.

00:53 But, yeah, I think that's the main reason.

00:55 We've got some good youth coming through.

00:57 Some boys are really starting to kick their gear up.

00:59 So, no, it's really good.

01:01 Nick, first year as coach, obviously,

01:04 player last year, coach this year.

01:06 Does it feel any different?

01:08 If it does, what's kind of the feeling being there

01:11 and seeing the group up close this year and being that mentor?

01:15 What does it kind of mean to you to be here today?

01:18 It's different emotions.

01:20 I think when you play, you're excited and, you know,

01:23 you're back-slapping, but when you're on the bench

01:26 and you're coaching, you get emotional

01:29 because you see the hard work the boys have put in.

01:32 You see the downs of last year, blokes missing out,

01:37 new players to the club, you know,

01:39 rewarding them for coming to the club.

01:41 And you get, I reckon you get emotional.

01:44 You feel good for the players that have stuck around

01:49 and you just feel good for them.

01:50 So that's probably the one emotion I take out of it.
