Transcript
00:00 Asia has called for support for their Biodiversity Center programs
00:05 that are far from caring for the environment,
00:07 like Joshua Garcia.
00:10 For the first time,
00:15 the Secretary General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, Dr. Cao Kim Hearn,
00:20 visited the founding anniversary of the ASEAN Center for Biodiversity, or ACB,
00:25 held at the University of the Philippines, Los Banos,
00:27 in accordance with the theme "Nurturing Seeds of Hope for a Sustainable ASEAN, the Epicentrum of Growth".
00:33 Dr. Hearn called on all ASEAN members and communities,
00:37 from the private and public sectors,
00:39 to support the programs and activities of the ACB,
00:42 particularly in maintaining and protecting the environment and the natural resources.
00:47 I believe that all ASEAN member states,
00:51 the external partners,
00:53 and the different stakeholders should support more of the work that the ACB has been doing.
00:59 According to ACB Executive Director, Dr. Teresa Mondetta Lim,
01:03 their 18th anniversary is special because the youth have a role here.
01:08 They consider this an opportunity to raise the awareness of the next generations
01:13 when it comes to the importance of nature.
01:15 In a similar way, each one should learn to protect the environment for the benefit of all.
01:22 You're talking about climate change.
01:24 Some of these protected areas provide resiliency against climate change impacts.
01:30 So a lot of the citizens will benefit from it,
01:33 and also the businesses who rely on the raw materials that is within this,
01:38 that is protected in our rich biodiversity areas.
01:44 Fifteen students from the College of Los Banos are involved in the ceremonial tree planting activity,
01:49 with ambassadors from other countries like Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam.
01:58 It's good because they are youth, they will be able to tell their parents,
02:03 tell their relatives, and everyone, and their other classmates about the importance of what the agency is doing.
02:10 According to Anthony Toss, one of the ACB biodiversity advocates,
02:14 it's a big thing for the public to know about the conservation of nature,
02:19 especially with the increasing effects of calamities and other disasters that the Philippines is experiencing.
02:24 When we talk of the Philippines, how much we are affected by climate change and other issues in our world,
02:33 we really want to make sure that we are the ones who are doing the action and doing the way to save lives,
02:38 to save our precious biodiversity, our nature here.
02:42 And we will all be part of the solution.
02:45 Meanwhile, some of the ACB's programs are the ASEAN Heritage Park Program,
02:50 Clearing House Mechanism, Biodiversity Heroes, Biodiversity Outlook,
02:54 and other international organizations that have a goal to protect and preserve the nature
03:00 that is important to the sector of health, agriculture, livelihood, business, and other needs of the country.
03:07 Joshua Garcia, for the country.
