00:00 Yes, the Philippine Coast Guard needs this because our fleet is growing.
00:05 And we need to make it better, especially the people who are in charge of our ships.
00:11 This is the explanation of the Philippine Coast Guard Deputy Commandant Vice Admiral Ronnie Gavan
00:17 after the turnover ceremony at the 250 million pesos two-story field training facility
00:24 in Barangay Santo Balagtas, Bulacan.
00:27 This is the first facility of the PCG that will provide training, knowledge and instruction
00:34 for those who will be joining their fleet.
00:36 This facility will teach our people on navigation, on reinforcement, on maintenance of ships.
00:45 This facility will also help the US government to strengthen the PCG fleet
00:53 as well as their counterpart from the US Coast Guard.
01:01 And we will continue to have INL programs and US Embassy programs
01:07 and US Coast Guard programs in conjunction with this facility
01:11 and making sure that our interoperability and our coordination is top-notch.
01:16 The US official explained that this project has been going on for a long time
01:20 even before the hot discussion in the West Philippine Sea.
01:24 Six years it's been building this.
01:27 And unfortunately, we've seen six years of build-up in the West Philippine Sea as well.
01:33 So it's really important that we have a long-term commitment to the Coast Guard,
01:38 to the people of the Philippines because we are truly your steadfast friends.
01:43 We are partners in prosperity and we are ironclad allies.
01:47 It's a mutual defense treaty that we have. So that goes both ways.
01:51 The PCG explained that the facility will be a center for security, environmental and safety training.
01:59 At present, there are 30,500 members of the PCG
02:03 and their target is to reach 70,000 in the next 10 years.
02:10 Noel Talacay for the Morning Show of the Philippines.
