00:00 So do you see that house in the background, do you see how unique it is?
00:07 Well, River has launched one of their unique scooters, the River Indy.
00:14 We are near Nandi Hills right now to see what River has launched, their new addition to
00:20 the electric market and here is the Indy electric scooter and let's take a look at this scooter
00:26 up close.
00:27 Welcome to Drivespark, my name is Vedant Johar.
00:35 When we look at the River Indy up close, we see a design that we haven't seen in any scooter
00:41 industry, not in the electric segment, not in the ICE segment.
00:44 Personally, it really stands out, I love the design of the scooter.
00:48 Right from the square headlamps that we see, all the way to the side profile and even the
00:53 rear, the River Indy has a really, really nice design to it.
00:57 So now looking at the front end up close, apart from the dual square headlamps, we see
01:01 these sleek indicators in front, a very traditional look that we haven't seen in any of the later
01:06 scooters.
01:07 So then on top of the headlights, we have these two strips which don't really serve
01:11 a purpose but again, adds to the aesthetic of the scooter.
01:14 Also we have a River badging over here in a very nice font, in a very unique font again.
01:19 Also in the front portion of the scooter, we have these guardrails over here.
01:23 Again, we haven't seen this in any other scooter, it's a very unique feature.
01:28 Instrument cluster that we see is sort of like a floating one as there's nothing really
01:32 supporting it at the back.
01:34 When you look at it from the front angle, it adds again, nice touch to the whole design
01:38 aspect of the scooter.
01:39 Coming to the side profile of the scooter, we have the Indy badging over here.
01:48 We have these foot pegs that can also come, that are also inbuilt to the body design,
01:53 but can also be opened for the rider's comfort.
01:55 It will be more comfortable keeping your legs stretched out and like giving yourself a more
02:00 upright seating position.
02:01 It also does come with the traditional footboard that we see on the everyday scooters.
02:05 Now moving along the side, we also have these inbuilt rear foot pegs and these come with
02:14 a really good grip on them to avoid slipping off.
02:18 Let's say you don't see a bump on the road or something and if you have a pillion.
02:22 Also the guardrails at the back are super unique.
02:25 It's this square shape that sort of juts out.
02:29 However, it does look that it can be put back inside.
02:31 However, it can't.
02:33 Other than it being a guardrail, it can also be used as a grab rail as it's positioned
02:37 quite perfectly for someone at the back to actually pull you out of situations or if
02:41 the scooter is not moving or something like that.
02:43 We also have this fuel tone finish, the black and the yellow that we see over here.
02:47 Also on the black piece at the bottom, we see air vents, one in the centre and in the
02:52 front which possibly could be to cool the battery as it is a flow mounted battery and
02:56 the vents give you direct access to the main battery that's located in the scooter.
03:01 Coming to the rear section of the scooter, first and foremost, the river barging that
03:08 we see in the front is also located at the rear.
03:11 I really really love how they've done the logo of river.
03:15 Also at the back, we have one more grab rail but this is not just a grab rail, it also
03:20 has mounting points over here to add a rear rack if need be, if you need more storage
03:25 in the scooter.
03:26 Also, the side guardrails and grab rails can also be used to add on accessories if you
03:31 need more storage, if you just want your scooter to look bigger.
03:35 The rear tail lamp that we see is a rectangular finish and has been put in place in a sort
03:40 of curved fashion.
03:42 This is one more feature on the river that we haven't seen in any other electric vehicle
03:47 or ICE vehicle for that matter.
03:49 Having such a large tail lamp will really help in night rides or in low visibility conditions
03:55 as it will illuminate the scooter and you will be able to see it from a really far distance.
04:00 So, on normal scooters or even motorcycles for that matter, for the tail lamps, you normally
04:06 see a very thin LED strip, whereas over here, we see a more thicker one, a more pronounced
04:11 one, making visibility much more easier, making the, just illuminating the whole back end
04:17 of the scooter much stronger.
04:19 That is a really good safety feature that they've put in the River Indy.
04:23 Rear indicators that we see are also like the traditional indicators coming out of the
04:27 body panel instead of being a part of it.
04:30 Then we also have reflectors over here, again for safety, if you're riding in night, the
04:35 slightest height will reflect off this.
04:37 So that's one more nice safety feature that Rivers has put into the Indy.
04:41 So before coming to the much awaited specifications, let's take a look at the storage space.
04:50 Your undersea storage, you get 43 litres of boot space.
04:53 Now that is something we have not seen.
04:55 As you can see, we fit a full bag and a full-faced helmet comfortably inside this.
05:02 It fits with ease, you don't need to struggle, you don't need to try pushing it in or anything.
05:07 So that is a really, really good feature.
05:09 We also have a front glovebox.
05:11 So here we have 12 litres of storage space and on top of that we have a USB mount inside
05:18 and we have a lever on the side to open your charging port.
05:23 Here is where you have to charge the River Indy.
05:26 Again a pretty convenient place to keep your charging port other than like the rear or
05:30 anywhere else.
05:31 So now this was all the storage space in the River Indy that comes with the stock vehicle.
05:36 So make sure you don't go for any upgrades.
05:39 And now coming to the specifications.
05:41 The Indy is powered by a 4 kilowatt hour battery that can put out a continuous power of 4.5
05:52 kilowatts and a maximum power of 6.7 kilowatts.
05:58 Really fun to ride and it comes with three riding modes, Eco, Ride and Rush.
06:03 For the range, we get around 161 claimed by the IDC but on Rush mode you can get around
06:09 70 kilometres, on Ride around 90 and on Eco around 120.
06:15 But again, all these figures really matter based on each one's riding style.
06:20 If you're very happy on the throttle, your range is going to go whereas if you're more
06:25 gradual, if you're a calmer rider, your range will increase.
06:29 Also it gets regenerative braking.
06:32 So when you're braking, it does charge the battery as much as it can.
06:36 Again helping that slight boost in range, that slight, it gives that slight support
06:40 to the battery and just hopes that it does better.
06:43 When we talk about the ride feel of the scooter, it comes with a relatively soft suspension
06:49 setup.
06:50 On the front, we have twin telescopic suspensions and on the rear, we have twin coil spring
06:54 suspensions.
06:55 As I said, it is on the softer side of things, but it still gives you a really smooth ride
07:00 even when you're going really fast.
07:02 The top speed of the scooter is 90 and when you're on full throttle doing 90 kilometres
07:07 per hour, you still do feel stable, you don't feel like you're bouncing around too much
07:11 or anything.
07:12 So they have done the suspension setup really well, however, there could be slight tweaks
07:16 on it to even give confidence while cornering hard and stuff like that.
07:20 Also, the turning radius of this is something I am truly shocked about.
07:24 It just keeps turning, keeps turning and it can take this full road that we're on in one
07:30 shot without having to stop, take it back and turn it again.
07:33 Really really good on reverb for including that aspect on this.
07:37 So now coming to the tyres of this.
07:39 At the front, we get 14 inches and we get 14 inches on the rear as well, but the front
07:44 size is a 110 by 70 and on the rear, we get a 120 by 70 and all the braking is done through
07:51 a combi braking system.
07:53 Disc brakes in the front, we get 240mm in the front and 200mm in the back, pretty good
07:58 for a scooter.
07:59 You don't need anything bigger because the scooter can't do speeds more than that.
08:03 Coming with a combi braking system with 14 inch tyres, it all adds up into a very comfortable,
08:09 a very confident braking scenario on the River Indy.
08:17 When we take a seat on the River Indy, I'm 6'1", so much legroom in front and you don't
08:23 feel cramped up, your handles are placed pretty comfortably where it's not like where you're
08:28 up front like this, it's a comfortable seating even for a taller person like me.
08:33 Using the highway pegs, you get even more comfort, I don't know how that's possible
08:38 but you get much more comfort.
08:39 You have a more pronounced seating position on this.
08:43 You honestly feel like you're on a cruiser of scooters when you're sitting on the River
08:47 Indy using the highway pegs.
08:49 The seat comfort also, after you're riding for like a few kilometres, you won't even
08:54 realise you're sitting on a scooter seat.
08:56 It has a lot of cushioning, a lot of padding, just making it, just adding to the ride feel
09:01 altogether.
09:02 For whatever short distance I got to ride the scooter, I had fun.
09:07 It wasn't the most powerful, it's not made to be the most powerful, this is a commuter
09:11 scooter, so it does have the power when you need it and all in all, the manoeuvrability,
09:18 the control, using the different buttons located on the handlebar, everything is very convenient,
09:24 there's nothing that is out of place and even if you need to charge your phone on the run,
09:28 if you're using something else in the front glovebox, you have one more USB socket located
09:33 underneath the handlebar which can be used and you have this empty space over here which
09:37 could be used to add a phone mount or something, everything just adding up into the whole commuter
09:42 aspect of scooters.
09:49 The price of the River Indy.
09:51 The Indy comes at a price of Rs. 1,25,000 ex-showroom and it's available in three colour
09:57 options.
09:58 One is the yellow that you see here, another is a blue and the third is a red.
10:03 All super eye-catchy colours, suiting the newer generation of people.
10:07 So, all in all, this was the River Indy and this was a short ride review on it.
10:13 So stay tuned for when we get the scooter in our hands to do a proper long-term review
10:17 where we can see the actual range of the scooter on the various modes and how it performs day
10:22 to day on daily commute to work or wherever or to the grocery shop or something.
10:27 So please do like, share and comment down below what you think of the River Indy.
