Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope quarterback Luke Moga may be a diamond in the rough for offensive coordinator Will Stein in the 2024 recruiting class.

00:00 Moving on to the other 2024 quarterback that the Ducks have committed, who I have also
00:05 seen in person taking a little road trip out to the Grand Canyon State in Arizona, Phoenix,
00:12 Arizona, sunny slope quarterback Luke Moga.
00:15 These are his junior highlights where he counted for more than 30 touchdowns and nearly 3000
00:20 yards.
00:21 The interesting story with Luke Moga is that he's actually pretty new to the position.
00:25 If you guys have been following me for a while and listening to me reading my stuff, that
00:30 was one of the interesting storylines.
00:32 And I think when you're looking at how that translates to the college level, you might
00:35 think for a second on the surface, well, this guy has been playing the position for that
00:39 long.
00:40 Isn't that a concern?
00:41 I can understand that point.
00:43 But I'm almost more focused with Moga on this guy has only been playing the position as
00:48 a this is only his second full season as the starting quarterback for the Vikings and he
00:53 is putting on a show.
00:55 I think he's an absolute gamer.
00:57 I think that he is an incredible leader and guys that and a guy that his teammates look
01:02 up to because I'll be honest when I went out to go see sunny slope, it's it's it's like
01:07 a polar opposite from your St. John Bosco.
01:09 I'm not trying to say that sunny slope isn't a talented program or that they don't have
01:13 good players, but St. John Bosco and then St. Francis Academy as well, who I just talked
01:18 about, they are littered with power five football talent.
01:24 And that's not the case at sunny slope.
01:27 It's really Luke Moga.
01:28 And then he's using his platform and his status as a top national recruit to try to elevate
01:35 his teammates, which I think is great.
01:37 But it also speaks to, you know, maybe doesn't have the kind of supporting cast that Michael
01:42 Van Buren does at a St. Francis Academy or even an Achilles Smith Jr. has at a Lincoln
01:48 who we're going to talk about next.
01:50 But I think what really stands out to me about Luke Moga is, like I said, just how quickly
01:54 he's evolved his game with how new he is to the game.
01:58 And his just this is an elite athlete, an absolutely elite athlete.
02:03 I think he's got an awesome arm.
02:05 I love his ability to throw off platform.
02:07 That said, he does have have some work to do mechanically.
02:12 He's kind of a little bit more raw as a prospect as a quarterback prospect.
02:16 But I mean, you see the ability to extend plays here to make plays, to throw on the
02:21 run to keep his eyes downfield.
02:23 I think Luke Moga has all the tools to be an awesome quarterback for the Ducks in 2020
02:30 and the 2024 class.
02:31 I don't know if he's going to be the Ducks guy in 2024.
02:35 I don't think that it's not an ideal situation for any coaching staff to have to rely on
02:41 a true freshman to play quarterback right when he gets to college.
02:45 I think that it's a different situation if a guy gets to college and is just such a can't
02:50 miss talent that we need to have him on the field.
02:54 We cannot afford to redshirt him.
02:56 We cannot afford to keep him on the bench.
02:58 So just some more on Moga as he rips off another long touchdown run.
03:03 This is a guy who has state champion track speed.
03:07 He finished with I believe it was a 10.49 in the state championship meet in the 100
03:15 meters.
03:16 So while you don't want a quarterback that is only going to be running and is just going
03:21 to take off every play, I think that that's definitely not what the Ducks are getting.
03:25 I think they're getting a guy who's a super capable passer.
03:28 You can see him sling it there.
03:29 Awesome placement.
03:30 He does struggle with drops as in his receivers aren't always the most consistent so he can
03:36 put the ball on the money.
03:38 But at that point, it's on the receiver to complete the catch and finish the play.
03:43 So I love just kind of the, I almost feel like it's like a backyard type of style with
03:49 Luke Moga.
03:50 I think you don't want a guy who's always going off script, but that's just kind of
03:54 the way things go in high school football at times.
03:56 So I think that's a lesson that he's going to have to learn once he gets to college is
04:00 that he's not going to be able to improvise as easily.
04:02 He's not going to be able to just out athlete people, which I think he is doing to a degree
04:09 at the high school level.
04:11 But he's one of the more interesting recruits that I've covered just because of not only
04:15 his story, but also just seeing him play and seeing him put this Sunny Slope team on his
04:22 shoulders on his back.
04:24 I think that they're obviously going to go as far as Luke Moga can take them.
04:28 And I think that he's a really intriguing prospect to watch.
04:32 The Oregon might have found a true gem in Luke Moga.
04:35 He was super under recruited.
04:37 And then after a standout junior season, just offer after offer after offer was flooding
04:42 in for Luke Moga.
04:45 And he committed to Oregon over schools like Arizona State, TCU, Miami was also involved.
04:51 I believe Michigan State was involved.
04:53 So you got to tip your cap and give a tremendous amount of credit to Will Stein for identifying
04:58 him, showing that faith in him and then the relationships that this Oregon staff was able
05:03 to build by hosting Luke and his family and just instilling that confidence, especially
05:08 after everything that the Ducks did offensively a year ago for Will Stein to come in and say,
05:14 you know, that was great props to them.
05:16 But now it's my offense and I want to take it up a level even further.
05:20 And I want you to be a part of it.
