00:16 Hi Smart Parenting fam! I'm Judy Santiago Aladdin, an editor of Smart Parenting
00:21 and welcome to our SP Guide to Preschools in Metro Manila.
00:25 [Music]
00:27 We're here at Escola de Vita in Las Pinas and joining us today is our guest student, my 4-year-old Leah!
00:33 Yay!
00:34 Are you excited?
00:35 Yes!
00:36 Let's go!
00:38 [Music]
00:47 Escola de Vita, also known as SDV Progressive Preschool, can be found in this mall in Las Pinas City.
00:53 It has a total of 5 classrooms for toddlers, nursery, and junior/kinder classes.
00:59 [Music]
01:04 Hi Teacher Meg!
01:05 Hello!
01:06 Can you share with us a brief background about Escola de Vita and how you moved to here?
01:12 Okay, so Escola de Vita is an ancestral school from preschool to grade 12
01:18 and we are located inside Mother Earth Subdivision in Talon Dos, Las Pinas.
01:23 It was after the pandemic when we realized that we have reached maximum number of enrollees already.
01:32 So we were problematic with the space, with the parking area also.
01:39 So we decided to relocate our preschool department.
01:43 We are toddlers, junior/kinder, nursery, and when we were looking for a space, we found this.
01:50 We found it to be very conducive, very convenient for parents.
01:55 [Music]
01:59 So when you say progressive, the main focus is child-centered.
02:04 The activities are very engaging.
02:07 Children are really doing hands-on activities and it's very interactive.
02:12 As a preschool teacher, I strongly believe in the value of play, incorporating play in children's education.
02:20 For example, a child who is a first-timer to go to school,
02:24 so considering that for the past two years, pandemic, the child has no interaction with other adults or other kids,
02:32 so of course we wouldn't expect the child to just sit down, listen, and copy and write right there and then.
02:40 So with the designed activities of the teachers, for example, we are introducing slimes and Play-Dohs.
02:49 We provide activities that will hook the child and engage the child until such time when the teacher incorporates writing materials.
02:58 Let's try writing first on the sand. Let's try writing with different tools.
03:04 And eventually, the pencil grip is there.
03:07 It's more on preparation. We believe that if the child is happy in school, all other skills will follow.
03:14 All other learning will follow.
03:16 SDV Progressive Preschool offers classes suitable not just for kids but also for busy parents.
03:23 So we have another program is the Saturday Playdates.
03:27 So we designed that for busy parents because there are parents who are working Monday to Friday.
03:34 So Saturday is their only time to go here.
03:37 They also have the Tiny Bonds class, a parent and child program for kids as young as one year old.
03:45 They can try engaging sensory activities here.
03:48 For two to three year olds, they offer the Thoughts class.
03:54 This class meets twice or thrice a week.
03:57 It also comes with a homeschool box filled with activities in line with the theme of the month.
04:03 And then after the Thoughts Playgroup, the nursery level is more academic already.
04:09 It's for three years old.
04:11 So when you opt to enroll your child in nursery, it means your child is ready to answer textbooks, to do homework.
04:21 But these are still developmentally appropriate.
04:23 So we just incorporate play with the balance of writing, reading, and introduction of lessons in science and civics.
04:34 We have a new program called Little Explorers.
04:38 So this is basically for those who are three already.
04:42 Or maybe two, but they are not ready for four times a week, which is nursery.
04:48 And they're not ready for three times a week, which is thoughts.
04:51 They want their children to go to school, but not every day and not once a week.
04:57 So we provided twice a week, Little Explorers.
05:01 So after nursery, the last level, the oldest level here is for junior kinder.
05:08 So junior kinder is for four years old.
05:11 So this is really academic, but still, since we are progressive, there is the insertion of play and hands-on activities.
05:20 For junior kinder, we are preparing them for the kindergarten, for K-12.
05:28 So we just limit because we have an ideal classroom size that is suited for 14 students in a class.
05:41 But we make sure that we have two teachers, at least two teachers in a class, and there is also an ABA.
05:50 We have an ABA therapist.
05:52 He is actually roaming around and checking which student needs intervention or special attention or guidance in terms of behavior.
06:05 Are they also graded like in traditional schools?
06:08 We don't use numerical grade.
06:12 We just have developmental checklists.
06:15 So there are skills in our checklist are marked as not yet exhibited.
06:21 So it doesn't mean that if the child cannot write his name yet, we will fail the child.
06:28 So that's not how it is in progressive.
06:30 We see it as the child is a work in progress.
06:35 We are working on it, we are targeting that skill so that by the end of the school year, we can put in the assessment that the child can already do it.
06:45 We have Viber group with parents and also in the messenger.
06:54 So as soon as they enroll, we already automatically add them in the section chat so that they'll be informed right away.
07:03 But we also have in the higher levels in nursery, junior, kinder, we use the Google Classroom.
07:10 If we have supplementary activities that we would like the parents to do at home, we attach it in the Google Classroom.
07:18 [Music]
07:41 What we love about SDV Progressive Preschool is its affordable programs that are designed with the kids' development and enjoyment in mind.
07:50 And a major plus, the school's location is very accessible and convenient for parents.
07:56 Check na check!
07:57 So Leah, how was school today?
08:00 Fun!
08:01 What did you learn today?
08:03 I learned about food.
08:06 Then?
08:07 I learned about drinking water and growing flowers.
08:12 Really?
08:13 Yeah!
08:14 And that's it for today here in Skolla Divita Progressive Preschool.
08:18 And thank you to our child, Leah, for being our guest student.
08:22 If you have a preschool in mind, comment them below so we can feature them here in SP Guide.
