00:14 Dr. Rob Zadiska, you know we talk about quarterbacks when they basically telescope a pass, right?
00:22 We've seen that a little bit this year.
00:23 We've seen that a little bit.
00:25 In the running game, the Huskers ran the ball really well against Northern Illinois.
00:27 They did okay.
00:28 They did okay.
00:29 That's high praise coming from me, by the way.
00:31 But you're going to give a demonstration here of why vision from a running back really can
00:36 make a difference between maybe one yard or five, ten, or fifteen yards.
00:40 It really does.
00:41 And that's something we're going to take a look at on this particular play.
00:45 So on this one here, you've got basically just a zone blocking play here where they're
00:51 running to the left.
00:53 It's a zone dive play.
00:55 You've got Gabe Irvin.
00:56 He's going to come over, take the ball this way.
00:59 Everybody's stepping and they're blocking.
01:02 You're going to have guys coming up, sealing off the linebacker.
01:06 You've got two motion guys here.
01:08 And this is important.
01:09 So you've got the motion guy, and he's coming as sort of a counter guy to follow.
01:15 They're sealing off the back side.
01:17 And this is a play that, when you're watching this, the front side of the play kind of gets
01:24 blown up here.
01:25 You've got a couple of defensive linemen again with Cade Haberman here, Omaha Westside over
01:35 the right guard.
01:37 And again you've got, I think it's number eight here, who actually blows it up.
01:43 So Cade's right here, number eight.
01:46 And these are the two guys that I think I talked yesterday about the fact that Northern
01:50 Illinois' defensive line played essentially two feet into Nebraska's, on Nebraska's side
01:58 of the line of scrimmage.
01:59 That's not a good thing.
02:01 So you've still got hope here on this play because you've got the back side linebacker
02:06 covered.
02:07 Cade's getting blocked here by Ben Hart, and that's kind of a little bit of a stretch to
02:12 say he's getting blocked by Ben Hart.
02:16 You've got Ben Scott here on number eight, and you've got, I think it's Ethan Piper coming
02:22 up on the play side linebacker right here.
02:25 So the front side of the play, the two interior D linemen for Northern Illinois, basically
02:31 at this point where you can see their bodies in front of the blockers, the blockers are
02:39 not square to the guys.
02:42 They're turned.
02:43 He's turned a bit here as well, too.
02:46 You want to see all of Ben Hart's number.
02:48 You want to see all of Ben Scott's number here.
02:52 They need to stay a little more square to the line, get a little bit more upfield push,
02:56 a little more upfield drive, and have these two defenders covered up, and they don't have
03:02 that.
03:03 And it basically leaves Ervin, he's got no place to go.
03:08 This is blocked off by number eight.
03:11 This hole's blocked off by 51 Habermann.
03:15 The one place he does, though, if you come back over here to the right, is a massive
03:22 lane.
03:23 Little bit of vision.
03:24 He can come right off, hit this lane, and he's probably got, I'm going to call it a
03:30 four to six yard gain on this play at least.
03:32 Now the reason I say it's only a four to six yard gain is the fact that you had the motion
03:39 guy who came in motion.
03:40 He's off the screen now.
03:41 You've got Harburg back here.
03:44 And then number 16 as well, too, who came.
03:47 They're supposed to be coming over and sealing the backside, and they do, I'm going to say,
03:50 a very mediocre job of it.
03:53 But you still have this big lane here that you could at least get four to six yards through,
04:00 and he doesn't do it.
04:01 He comes up, number eight makes the tackle, front side of the play is completely blocked
04:05 off.
04:06 Again, you saw for a moment there on that shot, you saw that opening, and here you'll
04:11 see it again, and here you'll see that lane is going to open up about right here.
04:20 You'll see the backside guys, and here's where you see that it's kind of an ineffective block
04:27 here.
04:28 16's coming over, but you should have a lane right there, and you just don't have that
04:35 lane.
04:36 And I understand that's why he may not have done it, may not have made that cut back.
04:40 There was room there.
04:41 But the fact of the matter is, there was room there that I think he could have, if he had
04:45 seen that, had that vision, he's staying square to the field, looking upfield and scanning,
04:53 he sees that cut's right off Benhart, he can get four to six yards on that because those
04:58 defenders, those two defenders to the far right side of the offense, they're basically
05:04 going to be trailing guys at that point.
05:06 They'll catch them, they'll make the tackle, but he's going to get four to six yards on
05:10 that play regardless.
05:12 But that's the difference having that kind of vision can make, and four to six yards
05:17 on a play versus a one yard loss on a play, again, these are difference makers that add
05:23 up over the course of the game.
05:25 Of course, when you're watching the game, and if you see a player you want to see Dr.
