Ship carrying wheat manages to leave Black Sea Port, defies warning from Russia
Transcript
00:00 In news overseas, Ukraine threw all caution to the wind when it let a ship carrying wheat leave the Black Sea port earlier today,
00:07 exposing itself to aerial or naval fire attacks from Russia, which in July rescinded the Black Sea grain deal
00:14 that allowed hundreds of thousands of tons of wheat to leave southern Ukraine for distribution to Africa and elsewhere.
00:21 Russia has issued a warning since July it will not hesitate to target ships carrying civilians and grain cargo
00:28 that try to leave the Black Sea port in southern Ukraine.
00:32 As such, Ukraine has resorted to using the countries of the European Union as transit routes
00:37 or destinations for Ukrainian grain bound for Africa and the Middle East.
00:42 It isn't only Ukraine's wheat that feeds much of Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia and America.
00:49 Among its highly in-demand products are maize, rapeseed, sunflower seeds and oil.
