00:00 Welcome back to another episode of Getting the Upper Land, where we give you a rundown
00:13 on some of our top stories. I'm livestock editor Rebecca Nudge.
00:17 And I'm senior journalist Dennis Howard and we're coming to you from the DPI Ag Institute
00:21 in Orange. You're back to the hut, I see.
00:24 Yeah, it's probably a reminder for farmers to be sun smart this summer and you to just
00:29 be smart. Oh, what an insult. Not sure how I'll recover.
00:35 Making news this week, we've got the winners and losers from Tuesday's state budget and
00:39 where the funding will be coming from for the next 12 months.
00:42 We also take a look at how canola crops around the state are going with the southern crops
00:46 tracking comparatively better than those in the north.
00:50 And we also look at the government's decision to scrap the Wyangla Dam raising project.
00:55 Yeah, what's the reaction been there? It's been pretty mixed. Those in the Upper
00:59 Lachlan are backing the decision while those downstream of the dam are less than impressed.
01:04 What's making news in livestock this week, then?
01:07 The ever inspiring Simon Chamberlain has a good lead on Kalara feedlot in Corinda. They've
01:12 invested about $2 million in screening machines for manure at the feedlot. They produce about
01:18 60,000 tonnes a year and screening means it's a better quality product with no stones. They're
01:23 using it on Kalara's own farms and there's actually demand from nurseries along the coast
01:28 too.
01:29 And you've been out and about a fair bit this week, Beth?
01:31 Yeah, ram sales are very much in full swing and I've also got a wrap on the on the hoof
01:36 component from the Woolworths feedlot trial which was judged in Merriwa on the weekend.
01:41 And Queensland Country Life team have a report on the drought master national record being
01:45 absolutely pummeled.
01:46 Yeah, it really is fascinating to look at the spread of results from bull sales this
01:51 season. As always, you can buy the land at all good news agents.
