00:00 Yeah, sure.
00:01 Good morning.
00:02 My name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspaper.
00:05 Lovely to be speaking to Anna Erhard, who is currently in Berlin, where you live, Anna.
00:11 But you are heading across for your first UK tour.
00:14 You did a couple of UK dates earlier this year, but this is the first tour.
00:18 Why is it important for you to play in the UK?
00:23 I mean, this is the first real chance I have to do this.
00:26 And before, I was always just thinking about Germany and Switzerland and just these places
00:32 where I thought people are listening to my music.
00:34 And since the last album, it got picked up a bit by BBC Six.
00:40 And that was so great.
00:43 I was so happy about that.
00:44 And I seem to have like a small audience there, hopefully growing audience.
00:49 And so it makes sense.
00:51 And I want to come to it.
00:53 And the lovely thing is you're playing St Leonard's in Southampton at the dates close
00:57 to us on this latest tour.
00:58 The point is, you did a few dates in the UK earlier this year, and you know that you get
01:04 a good audience over here then.
01:06 Yeah, it was amazing to play there.
01:08 I was really surprised.
01:10 It's definitely different from Germany, like the way people interact at concerts.
01:16 Really?
01:17 In what way?
01:18 I feel like the audience is a bit more like a bit braver and they know more what it means
01:24 to be an audience.
01:25 You know, they're really engaged.
01:26 That's interesting to hear.
01:27 But why do you think that might be?
01:32 I guess it's you guys might be more used to this kind of live music situation.
01:39 And here concerts are a bit more reserved.
01:42 You tend to think Germany's got concert halls everywhere, choirs everywhere, music happening
01:47 everywhere.
01:48 Yeah, that's true.
01:49 Yeah, but I think it's just a different history and kind of mentality, basically, as well.
01:58 And I really enjoyed that.
01:59 Yeah.
02:00 And also the UK has happy memories for me from childhood camping holidays.
02:05 Yes.
02:06 Yeah, I was there when I was, I think, 13 or something.
02:10 I think it was my last holiday with my family afterwards.
02:13 I told them like, I'm not going to do this again.
02:17 That's a bit young to stop the family holidays.
02:19 I know, but I wanted to do my own thing.
02:23 But we were, yeah, we took the car from Switzerland.
02:25 We drove to Cornwall mainly.
02:29 And we had a big tent and we were just camping all around Cornwall.
02:33 And then we went to London.
02:34 Yeah, it was fun.
02:36 But we also got robbed on the first day.
02:38 Robbed?
02:39 In the UK?
02:40 Yeah, like somebody smashed in the window and they just took all our stuff.
02:45 So I think that's why I was like, afterwards, I was like, I'm not coming on holiday again.
02:52 I was just wearing the same shirt for like two weeks and being like a teenager.
02:58 I thought that was just horrible.
02:59 On behalf of all of us here, I'm so sorry to hear that.
03:04 Well, thank you so much.
03:07 I forgive you.
03:08 Oh, thank you.
03:09 Well, it wasn't me.
03:10 But camping is important in your music too, isn't it?
03:14 On the last album, Campsite.
03:16 Yeah, I dedicated it.
03:17 Camping is in your head, isn't it?
03:20 Exactly.
03:21 I dedicated my whole album to this campsite feeling that I had back then with my family
03:28 and earlier on as well.
03:29 We were always camping.
03:31 And during the pandemic, this kind of came back, this wish to just be outside and live
03:38 in this simple life.
03:40 Yeah, like a nostalgic feeling.
03:43 Fantastic.
03:44 Well, have a really happy tour in the UK, won't you?
03:49 Keep your possessions close by, obviously.
03:52 I will, for sure.
03:53 Lovely to speak to you.
03:54 Have a great time.
03:55 Thank you.
03:56 Thank you.
03:57 You too.
03:58 Ciao.
03:58 - Ciao. - Yeah.
